I would suggest this is a good place to visit - homes in stilts above the water. Extremely poor but centre of the community is faith - a mosque also above the water.

A visit to the local fishing village is not for all but we loved it.I love to see how real people live and go about their daily lives whether it be in squaller or cleanliness. The stilt homes and all the animals running about everywhere. The locals all wanted to have a chat and learn about us.The people are just soooo friendly and welcoming.Worth a vist to see the port and all the homes

Despite the poverty and dirt of this place worth to see:
-original local village , still not touristic
- so friendly and warmly smiling people
Children asked for photos with us , not for money like in places where touristic buusiness is already developed. One of them asked me for pen and his parents were so thankful for this modest gift -so touching. I had nothing else to give,so we went to the shop and bought some sweets. My advice is to bring some pens or coloured pencils if you want to visit this place.

This traditional fishing village is a must see if you’re in Maumere. Take some small change the kids love to have their photo taken for a coin or two. There are 3 mosques, the people very friendly. It was low tide when we went would advise trying to go at high tide if at all possible. Lots of rubbish - be prepared!

This is one of the most beautiful fishing villages in Flores island, called Wuring village, located around 6 km from the city of Maumere. The village has the size of 8 km2 with 4.717 inhabitants (2012). From the time of the Dom Thomas Ximenes Da Silva, the King of Sikka, the Bajo Moslem people from Celebes are permitted to live in the Sikka region. They always live in peace and harmony with the local people from Sikka who mostly are Christians. The Bajo people mostly live as skilled sailors and fishermen catching sea cucumbers, sardines, squids and octopus. In the tsunami following the earthquake of 7,8 Richter scale that occurred in Flores on December 12, 1992; the 3 meter high sea water swept the village of Wuring. Around 2.100 people died in all Flores, including 87 people in the Wuring village. Around 26 people stayed in their boats during tsunami and they all lived. Many more people stayed in the mosque and all people in the mosque were safe too.

While riding a rented motorbike, chanced upon a road leading the edge of the land mass(based on the map). And thought that it might be a place with nice view. Ended up in a village that was 'floating' on the waters. There's a mosque at the end of the road too. It seems that it was a tourist attraction as well. Did not snap any photos though.
Along the street, there were food stalls for your simple lunch and snack stop.

Really well worth visiting. It provides a real insight into the differences brought about by religion and culture. As with most of Indonesi and much of asia,, this small muslim village is dramitcally filthier than it's christian counterparts. As christian ethnic groups sweep and clean up all their rubish as 'cleanliness is next to godliness' while islamic communities wash themselves five times a day for prayer and hence worry lesss about the cleanliness of the environment around them.
People are super freindly and its a nice little community with a stunning mosque being renovated and extended at the end of a long bamboo gangway out over the water. i really enjoyed our visit and would recommend it highly. Lovely community with some challenging issues to address

It's just by the harbour, went there for quick look to see if we can get the view of sunset. It's not really that nice but it's always good to know how they live.
