About
A visit to the Aland Maritime Museum is exciting for children and adults alike. The exhibitions are filled with dramatic stories and fantastic objects, such a genuine 18th century pirate’s flag. There are also lots of interactivities, such as a climbing mast, a bridge simulator and a karaoke. Seadog, landlubber or in between - Aland Maritime Museum has something for everybody.

This was one of the most fascinating and well laid out maritime museums I have had the pleasure to visit in 40 years. Wonderful displays on multi-levels with the additional tour of the merchant ship POMMERN. The ship has a device allowing you to walk the decks, cabins and holds and tells you all about that part of the ship just by walking into the area (available in multiple languages). The store is also reasonably priced with a wide assortment of merchanise.

I'd return here anytime!!! IT was great!!!!

When you visit the Maritime Museum, you also get entry to the museum ship Pommern. I find the audio guide on board the Pommern works best for those who want to walk around alone at their own pace. My children who were aged 0-3 appreciated Pomerania the most, but the Maritime Museum's playroom was also popular. Big plus because there is a toilet inside the playroom with a changing table. The only thing that lowers the rating is that the elevator from the span/bridge down to the deck on Pommern is a bit tricky if you are going by yourself as you have to open and close the door and hold the button down the whole way. The second elevator that goes down below the decks works like regular elevators, as does the elevator inside the museum.

It’s a small, well-organized museum covering many angles of maritime life, featuring succinct texts in Swedish, Finnish, and English. Everything is well-lit and eminently readable in large fonts at appropriate height.

There is an impressive collection of models of sailing ships of various sizes. But it's not all glamour and nostalgia as the displays about life on board will show you.

A combination ticket is available with the impressive ship Pommern which is docked across a short bridge.

Maritime museum is very interresting place to visit for people all ages. We have three kids, ages 6, 12 and 15 and we all enjoyed our visit very much. There was a quiz for children and they loved it! They got an icecream as a prize. If you visit Mariehamn, you should definately visit Maritim Museum.

A very comprehensive museum, covering the whole of the shipping and sailing history of the region. The only aspects missing are related to steam and later changes in the modern era. For anyone interested in this history, this is a gem.

Here you can explore Åland's maritime heritage. Sailing has, through the ages, been the way the Ålanders travel across the seas. Mariehamn was also home to the world's last large sailing fleet.

The museum has an impressive collection of ship models. There are also ship environments built around original equipment, fittings, and fixtures.

Next to the museum building is the museum ship Pommern. With the same ticket, you can visit it too.

Åland Maritime Museum is a large and well organized museum. I guess it's a heaven for a maritime enthusiast but for someone like me, it was a nice museum. There was some interesting pieces of course. Worth to visit if you're in town, lots to see.

There is a restaurant and a small shop. With the same ticket you can aslo visit the museum ship Pommern.

Excellent review on maritime travel development from Åland perspective. Special focus on sailing boats that is topped with Pommern - early 1900’s built sailing “cargo ship”. We thought to be there something like 2 hours but ended up spending 4. There is lot to see for children as well, so whole family is entertained and educated. Really well set up exhibition.

The museum has lots of artifacts that depict the maritime history of Åland and the neighboring areas.

There is lot of information about the lives of the sailors and seamen.

The " rör och gör"( touch and do)activities are a hit with children and elders alike.all floors are easily accessible by lift.there are lots of activities for children in the basement floor.

The ticket offers 2 visit to the same museum or to the museum and the Pommern ship museum.

The museum is a must visit for all ages.

I've visited this museum several of times and I always find many interesting things to explore. Well it's renovated and it's easy to explore kind of museum with many things to read about ship building and so on. Many things for the kids as well. This is a nice museum in Aland and it's situated in a good place, not far from the ferry.
