A great place to rest en route to Atapuerca or to stay. Known for the free pilgrim's "Sopa de Ajo" supper and a place pilgrims have stayed at for decades/centuries. I rested here before continuing same day to Atapuerca. A place to sit, sunbathe, get...More

The monetary and the CR Las Henera are the two choices in San Juan de Ortega. There is one restaurant. So not a lot of choice. But the pilgrims mass on the church is exquisite and the dinner at the local bar/restaurant is a very...More

Unlike lots of other churches along the Camino, this one is open all day. It is beautiful, quiet and peaceful - an ideal place to sit and pray/contemplate awhile. There is a daily pilgrim mass at 6pm, with an accompanying booklet in many languages. The...More

The monastery is being rehabbed by the Patrimonio which takes on many of the historic spots in Spain. The church has been almost completed and is wonderful. Make sure you look in the side chapels, some of the altarpieces are quite unique.

After crossing the Montes de Oca as a pilgri, arriving in San Juan de Ortega is a blessing. It's quite and magical, nature, culture and the cript everything together is a "must" on the Way to Santiago.

Stopped here on our Camino tour and after a stage walk. There was a pilgrim Mass in Spanish underway. One can see where this is a welcome rest for pilgrims.

Situated on the Pilgrims' Trail, this church is in a small village. Although not particularly attractive from the outside, it has an impressive interior with interesting historical items which have informative signs written in Spanish, French and English.

We stayed here during our Camino, as there were no rooms to be found anywhere for miles. The church is currently under renovation, but is quite nice. We attended a lovely mass there and enjoyed it thoroughly. The albergue is quite crude however. We slept...More

Here a large but cheap albergue with the fairly solid bunk beds distributed closely over three rooms. A nice old building with a lot of history and free garlic soup for dinner (we added the extra for a small fee). Worth a visit but as...More
