Along the channel it is possible to go for a walk or ride a bike. A lot of different birds singing may be heard along the path.

Walked alongside the canal as part of the Camino Frances. Pleasant and quiet beside the agricultural fields with storks landing there to gather food for themselves/chicks. Didn't see anything moving on the canal and the lock at the entry to Frómista didn't seem to have been used/opened for a while. Nice to walk alongside a canal for a change but I did feel it hard on my feet for some reason. …

I passed by this on my way into town and was intrigued. It has a lock system and several levels and dates back hundreds of years in a different era where transport and irrigation required the canal to be built.

This 207km waterway was built in the 18th and 19th centuries. It had 49 locks and was used to transport corn. At Fromista the locks overcome 46 feet. The tourist information office here is very helpful.
