- T5174BPcatherinemBrisbane, Australia15 contributionsBrings the war to lifeBest war museum I've ever been to. Doesn't take too long to walk around but the scenes that have been recreated with real tanks, trucks, guns, uninforms, etc. from the war really bring it to life. The settings include mannequins and they are so lifelike. No two faces are alike - they are all unique. I felt some were about to come to life at any minute. Mesmerizing for me. Do it!A big thank you for your comment and the recommendation !Written October 9, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 4, 2023
- helenandpaul13Worcester, United Kingdom1,684 contributionsAbsolute must for anyone interested in the D Day landingsAmazing place full of relics about the battle and lots of items all carefully restored. Two large tanks outside on the grass and its situated about 1 mile from the Cemetery. Paid about 10 Euros entrance fee. I passed a small museum before this and was confused because this had collections from the war and was situated in a large house and shed. I paid about 8 Euros to see that although it was worthwhile. Lots of displays and you get a real feel for the D Day landings and the horror that was facing people as they landed. After walking round here I turned left out of the gate and followed the signs first to the cemetery then down to the beach. The beach had memorials there and it was really Eerie. I didn't realise just how close this was to the cliffs and the beach itselfThank you for your feedback, we're glad you enjoyed your visit !Written October 9, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten October 8, 2023

In the beginning I was a bit hesitant as it was really crowded, but it turned out to be ok. The crowd spread across the museum. The museum shows you a really strong timeline on events with great story’s around the events that are displayed. Well Kept equipment, vehicles and memorabilia. - LesleyDerbyshire, United Kingdom11 contributionsNot to be missed!Extensive and very comprehensive museum, not only about D-Day, but also the whole of WW2 from build-up to the end. Vast collection of artefacts, with fantastic authentic street and battlefield displays. Throughout the museum, clear information boards in 3 languages added to the experience. Moving real accounts and photos of veterans at the end of the tour. Great gift shop with a wide range of souvenirs. We spent almost 2 hours here and did not feel rushed. Free entrance for veterans, which was appreciated. Highly recommend a visit. All the staff thanks you for your comment ! - Hamble007256 contributionsA great morning outFirst stop of the day, 2nd June 2024. Leaving aside all the jeeps, half tracks, tanks etc that were visiting for D-Day 80, this museum is well worth a visit in its own right. It has numerous exhibits, dioramas and materiel that tells the story of occupation and D-Day and beyond.Thank you for your comment ! - Anco MAberdeen, United Kingdom751 contributionsGreat Museum, Great FestivalWe visited the Overlord Museum during the 80th anniversary celebrations. We were greeted by plenty of vehicles outside, including heavy ones operating in the field. Plenty more stalls to buy vintage stuff. Inside the museum is excellent with a great timeline, displays and a lovely memory wall. Interesting also for a nice mix of German and Allied equipment. A great visit.Thank you so much for your feedback !Written June 30, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 3, 2024

- Manninagh #2Isle of Man, United Kingdom162 contributionsBrilliant collection of vehiclesI was intrigued to learn the story of the collection- alas at the end of the visit. One family used vehicles left after the war to run the family lumber business which was much in demand for rebuilding. I loved the personal stories with accompanying photography. - Paradise650845Maastricht, The Netherlands36 contributionsBest museum in NormandyBest museum in Normandy. The story of the opposing forces is told through many very detailed dioramas using a lot of original artefacts and vehicles. What makes this museum stand out is the amount of uniforms, weapons and vehicles that are used to recreate the situation in june 1944. Must see. Fun fact is the information on where the many where recovered. We're glad you enjoyed the museum and its collection ! - Nathan MPerth, Australia10 contributionsWorth visiting for the WWII machinery collection and displays. The collection of WWII artefacts and machinery including tanks and trucks from around the region was impressive and I saw some things I have not seen in any other museum. I was impressed at the scale of the displays and the thorough information provided. There is a lot, but I believe you could do it thoroughly in under 2 hours. Try to go when the tour busses aren't there as the slim walkways got crowded quickly. Loved it!Thank you so much for your comment !Written September 1, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten August 19, 2024

It’s amazing what you can fit into a museum with limited space. This museum is packed with displays and scenes to recreate the sad history of the area. Although small, it is very well laid out and full of genuine exhibits.
You can take dogs so long as they are carried, I pity the poor soul who has a St Bernard 😂
A great place to visit and in my mind, probably the best D-Day museum in the area.

This museum is very very expensive interesting which retraces in a very pedagogical way the before, the famous day and the after landing.
This museum plunges us back into history and horror with all its human losses that have valiantly sacrificed themselves to free the country from the enemy invasion leading to the end of the war.
The whole visit is embellished with pieces from the past (tanks, armoured vehicles, cars, motorcycles,...) well detailed and it was very interesting.
The photo hall of a few survivors with their pictures during the war and their recent photo is extremely moving.

Terrible experience as staff refused to sell us tickets at 18h06 when museum closing time is at 19h. Make sure you do arrive AT LEAST AN HOUR before.
Furthermore they said the till was closed when obviously people were still buying from the shop.

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum, we both agreed it was the best we had been to on our trip. The quality of the artefacts and the way that they are presented is fantastic. Lots of signage in English. Well worth a visit.
They very kindly allowed us to carry our small dog around with us too meaning my husband and I could enjoy the museum together, much appreciated,

During visits into D-Day memorials, Omaha Beach area was one of the largest we visited. Beach itself, monuments, cemetary, and also (perhaps) the largest Museum, named Overloard Museum, which has gathered so many authentic photos, equipment, stories etc,, that it really gives an idea what had happened there from 6th of June until the end of WW2. I also bought one interesting book, historical maps & some souveniers at shop.

Very well, will interest elders and their great-grandchildren, tourists and enlightened amateurs. The period material is abundant and very well staged in a limited volume, it seems like it. Welcome, smiling staff and available. For visiting others in the area, if only one is to be seen, it is this one. Outside, tanks and guns are worth a visit even on the museum’s closing days.

One off my bucket list to visit during my week in Normandy. The museum didn’t disappoint and the collection is marvellous. Love that you can follow the journey around and stories are created for you with scenes. So much content, vehicles, tanks and historic weapons to enjoy. Make sure you visit.

This museum experience begins with reading a condensed history of WW2 in Europe which would be useful for those unfamiliar with the subject. The visitor then progresses through a vast array of dimly lit hardware including wreckage and a well documented array of vehicles in various stages of decay, damage or restoration finally exiting through a passageway of personal stories which as always are of interest and moving. All of this accompanied by a loud audio background of war noises. I found it added little to my knowledge of the Normandy campaign and was for me quite missable unlike the nearby US cemetery and visitor centre which is immaculately presented and free.

Hello, we're sorry that the museum and its collections of over 10,000 objects, including around forty vehicles, were not to your taste. We hope you found what you were looking for in other museums in the region.

Magnificent museum that becomes more impressive as you visit it! The life-size characters, the music and the period vehicles or weapons totally put us in the mood with the impression of experiencing Operation Overlord. Each vintage vehicle or weapon is all accompanied by fascinating explanatory text and images of the same vehicle at the very moment of disembarkation. Visit that impressed and pleased the whole family at a more than affordable price for the beauty of the museum
