Those men who jumped out of a plane into occupied Europe, to liberate were the heroes amongst heroes, and this memorial is a wonderful tribute to them.

If you came to this site...I don't need to tell you what happened there and what a sacrifice it was. You already know it. This memorial overlooks Omaha beach. Need I say more?

It is surreal indeed to be at a place where there was such bravery. You will also get a sense of the word honor means to be here. Pride is another word that comes to mind.

The memorial is situated on top of a bunker, overlooking the eastern end of Omaha beach. A German stronghold is around this area, and the bunkers can still be seen.

The Omaha Beach memorial is one of many amazing symbols of the commitment and sacrifice that soldiers of the US, UK and Canadian militaries made on June 6, 1941. A bucket list event if there ever was one (for me) to go see these places...More

To see the terrain and what our young men had to overcome was truly something. Unless you visit and stand in their footsteps, you truly can not comprehend.

Take a walk around the area to understand the magnitude of the task in invading this beach. Look at the bunkers and defences and give some thought to the young men on both sides who gave their lives.
