You better believe the reviews when they say it's a wild beach. It is beautiful and it is wild.

You have to park your car on the road and walk about 1 km down to the beach through what seemed like a pine wood.

Once you reach, it's rocky and, when we were there, the sea was stormy so the water was choppy. It didn't seem very commercial at all although there were people tanning themselves on the rocks.

To add: THIS IS A PHOTOGRAPHER'S PARADISE for 'seascape' shots. I am definitely going back even if only for that.
I have docked 1 star because this is your typical beach and I am not sure how suitable it is for families.

we got out car opened and money and camera robbed. It seems to happen very often, but there is no police watching.
The place is beautiful, but there is no real beach. Rocky cliffs and beautiful water. There is a small gay cruising scene and people are comfortable getting naked.
Don't leave anything in the car.

My favorite place in the world! We come here every year in winter, it is still warm if you have a jacket, we bring sandwiches and wine and have a picnic. Beautiful scenery and very romantic.

The beach is really marvelous, but be very careful leaving your things in the car and on the beach. We experienced a rubbery of some of the stuff (camera, tomtom navigator, bag with documents) from our car parked along the road with other 500 cars. The police really couldn't do anything, as you might expect, but they made something to make us have our documents back (Nardò police station). What they suggested was to leave the car at the ILLEGAL parking. You pay 4 euros to a guy who will never declare them. But your things will stay safe. Same things for the beach itself. Be very careful.

This us a rocky wild beach attached which you get to going through a protected forest. The beauty is undeniable and so is the quality, cleanliness of the Chrystal clear water is undeniable. However if you're going with small children remember that it's a little walk from the road. You also need to get some snacks and water as there is a little shack selling a few things but as there's nothing else he runs out fairly quickly.

the park surrounding the beach was and still is amazing but nowadays in summertime it is really overcrowded.
Also, the water is fresh, which means much more cold than other places.

This area can be best accessed in two ways. Either go to Santa Caterina and turn right along the main road until you see the fort on the hill. Walk up the steps/ path through the forest until you get to the top. You can't miss the castle. Walk along a little until you see paths down to the beach. Just follow people or there are many paths and as long as you go down you will get there. The other way is to drive (there is a bus stop and it is walkable from Nardo if you know the way and are fit) Park along the road at the Villa Tafuri. This is the pale orange villa and opposite is the entrance to the national park. It is only just under a mile to walk down to the sea. Go along the main path, turn left if you want a gentler walk or go straight down the track which has lots of rough stones, pebbles. You will need walking trainers. We are in our 60s and still managed it fine. The beach is magical and very popular with locals. if you walk to the right it will be quieter. The tracks go through the scrubland and in spring the flowers are amazing. Take water and cover up if hot. There is a delightful breeze which tends to mask the sun. We walked in April and came back rather burnt! Enjoy the sea and the whole ambience of the place.

Best visited during low- to mid-season (as most things), the Natural Reserve of Porto Selvaggio is a wonderful place to stretch your legs, burn off some pasta pounds, and have a leisurely swim. The closest parking is off the litoranea near Masseria Tafuri/Fumarola, but the more adventurous can park below the Torre dell'Alto where the coastal road from Santa Caterina ends. From there it's a long hike down to the beaches, but be sure to continue awhile along the northern coast. As the way becomes more and more rocky, resist the temptation to hike in the forest, and follow the path until some breath-taking views of Torre Uluzzu. Then grab an over-priced spritz at the Bar Fico d'India (you've earned it) by the Torre, and start your stroll back in the shade under the pines.

This is one of the great hidden treasures in Italy's south. If there were no beach here, the hiking would be enough to fill a day with breath-taking view. But there is a beach - one of the most beautiful in Apulia! There are several trails leading down to the beach, but my favorite is the one with the trail head near the Torre Uluzzo on the north end. The sand is not fine at this beach (though it is a sandy-bottomed cove), and there are stones to be sure. But it's surrounded by a low rock out-cropping that provides plenty of comfortable space to relax in the sun. One of the interesting things about this beach is that it is actually fed through a series of underground river springs, which causes the water to have a very low salinity (it tastes almost fresh!)...It is brisk near these springs, which are all along the rocks as far as I went out. But the swimming hole to the north are very warm and pleasant. The water there is crystal clear, about 12 feet deep and ready to be leaped in to by the rocks that surround them! Can't say enough about this fantastic beach, and if you want t a good look at it all, check out this link to a video I shot of it last time I visited -

Right in the middle of Porto Selvaggio natural park and wildlife reserve, this beach is one of the best in Italy and this year got again the 5 sails of Legambiente green association. If you decide to visit it please bring with you water and sandwiches because there is not bars or services it is only 100% nature.
