Just a short way along the street from the town hall, this lovely Baroque church is worth a visit. Rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake, it has an impressive facade and beautiful interior with an oval plan and ornately painted ceiling. Well worth a visit.

If you have any jnterest in architecture or churches this is another example of wonderful baroque building with an interior so beautiful that you can easy spend time just looking upwards to the vaulted knave and immense columns either side. Really lovely place and not over run with tourism at least at the time we visited.

This jewel of Sicilian baroque is located on the pedestrianised Via Penna, just a few steps from the town hall. We experienced this magnificent place when visiting Scicli on 23 July, 2019. The imposing exterior dates from the 1760’s and on the inside, the timbered doors, the stucco and gilded interior decorations date from the mid nineteenth century. Another highlight is without shadow of doubt the wonderful blues and intricate decoration of the ceiling. It is worth visiting just for this ceiling decoration alone and although a lot smaller than the Domas in Modica and Ragusa, it is just as impressive inside. One final tip not to miss was pointed out to us by a very kind, old gentleman. On the left hand side of the entrance there is a painting of Christ in an a-line white skirt, which when inverted it would suggest the shape of a chalice!

A beautiful church in the upper part of the town, there has been a church on this site since the 7th century. Reached by a flight of steps, it is quite an impressive sight. With it's cross on the top of the facade, it is the highest point in the whole town. You can go up the tower - I didn't but my husband did and there are amazing views over the town from here. Check with your hotel about opening times which seem to vary between website and books. Definitely make the effort to visit.

I'm not one for late over the top baroque so the simplicity of this church came as a pleasant surprise. The parishioners take great pride in the painting of christ in a dress which upside down looks like a chalice. If it was a contemporary painting I think it would be regarded as blasphemous!
