Sitting at the top of one of the hills overlooking Scicli is the former Chiesa Santa Maria della Croce which is now a historical monument open to the public. It is fairly strenuous but well worth the hike up the hill or alternatively it is possible to drive up to the church for the less physically able.
The building is well laid out with useful information boards around the building and it is also set up with an audio guide that you can download as an app on your smartphone however I could not see if you could get it in English!
The building seems to be open on alternate mornings and afternoons so you need to check locally when it is open. There is a very reasonable admission fee and you are then left to roam freely around the complex and also take in some of the fabulous views of Scicli afforded from such a high vantage point.
It is probably the oldest building in Scicli having survived the great earthquake in 1690. It was first a monastery and later a convent
Possibly the best way of showing it off is a selection of photos as attached.

Such a beautiful and breathtaking view opens on Scicli from this monastery. It was very peaceful in it. Very nice gentlemen from Scicli took us there on his own car(which was very kind of him) and also showed us the town. I will definitely visit it again

A lovely early morning bike ride around the narrow alleys of Scicli lead us to this wonderful place next to an old chapel. The view of the city is breathtaking. Great point to take photos.

The church complex sits on top of a hill. From here you can look all the way around. The best shot of the church are from another hill though. Like everywhere else in Scici... very peaceful.

No words can describe the amazing view from the top of the hill where the abbey is located.
It is possible to have a 360 view of the whole Scicli valley, which will leave you without breath.
Totally worth!
