We were pleasantly surprised by this tour! While the tour itself was in French, our guide made a concerted effort to translate the essentials into English and was open to all our questions. There is a video with subtitles in the beginning that explains the majority of information. It was a concise tour (which we appreciated due to the heat) and we learned a lot about a special commodity for Reunion. Very nice gift shop with plenty to choose from!

There are tours on the hour that do not need to be booked in advance unless you have a large group; tours are conducted in both French and English.

The tour area is quite compact and requires little walking, starting with the plants themselves, through to the outdoor and indoor drying rooms and ending up in the sorting and packing area that is at one end of the main building also housing vanilla souvenirs and food.

While they would not accept a credit card payment for under EUR10, our tour cost was only EUR8, they did allow us to not pay until the end of the tour at which time we made purchases to bring our total bill well over that minimum.
The ice-cream was delicious and our adult children at home enjoyed the pure vanilla essence we took back.

We visited this attraction which is not far from St Denis and found it to be absolutely fascinating. Tours are available in French and English and our English speaking guide was extremely knowledgeable. It was a fascinating tour from the vanilla garden to the finished product. I had no idea production was so labour intensive. I think they have missed a good marketing opportunity though in not selling vanilla products other than the extract and beans. Seems like a great market for vanilla fudge, syrup for ice cream, milkshakes etc. Don't miss this great attraction as it is well worth a visit.

I enjoyed the visit, and I recommend the visit of the old house too if you have time...
Be aware that the visit is only with a guided tour so be sure to book it before you go !
Sure, the bourbon's vanilla is quite expensive, but after this tour you will know why and fully appreciate the richness of its perfume...
I liked the "powder of vanilla" that you can use for cooking, as good as the original, but cheaper.
Don't miss this occasion, who knows how long they can keep going such a meticulous work !

We learned a lot about vanilla there. The movie was with English subtitles which was very useful for us. The guided tour was only in French which we did not understand. The sales room is very proper and clearly. We enjoyed it.

We went there with my husband as part of our last place to visit in our honeymoon trip.
We went for a guided tour in the factory itself.
The tour took a touch of "erotism" as you will learn in the history of vanilla, that it was used as an "exciting" drink for lovers, unfortunately we were not given the recipe!
The shop includes some vanilla ice cream which was delicious.
I will recommend if you want to know more about the Reunion Island culture.

I had read that La Vanilleraie conducts tours in English. Unfortunately, on the day I went, they did not have any tours in English. It could be because we went in June, which was likely low tourist season.

The guide was very nice though, and urged us to join the French tour free of charge. We got to first watch a video with English subtitles, and then followed the guide to see the vanilla plants. Sadly, we couldn't understand a thing on the tour.

We also wanted to buy some vanilla products, but the shop was actually just a small-ish section with products placed on tables. There were no details given on how you could use the vanilla products on sale there.

There wasn't anything else going on here either, such as a restaurant for lunch. In fact, we arrived at lunch time to find the whole place closed because the staff were on their break. So it felt rather un-buzzy.

It felt like a wasted trip.

Sadly the tour was only offered in french this day, but we decided to take the tour nevertheless. First you get to watch a movie that shows you the production of vanilla step by step (good thing it had english sub-titels). After the movie the tour of the facilities starts and everything that was shown in the movie gets explained in even more detail and we learned a great deal. It's worth taking the tour and afterwards one knows why vanilla is that expensive.

The visit is worth it to understand the amount of labour that goes into the vanilla production on the island. However, I would agree with a previous reviewer, that there was a lot of promoting selling at the end of the tour, which could be skipped. The guidance we had was in french, but the video shown at the beginning of the tour has english subtitles, so the basic messages are made sure not to be missed. Guide very good at narrative. We arrived at the spot and we had not difficulty to book the next guided tour. Not stressful at all.
