Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle or Hunedoara Castle, is a Gothic-Renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania. It is one of the largest castles in Europe and is featured as one of the Seven Wonders of Romania.

Although it is mostly in renovations, i have visited this place many times, and is always on the list when in the area (even if we do not go inside).

History, medieval castle, museums. 2 hours is plenty to visit the whole castle (if you do not count the adjacent museums which are included in the ticket price).

We visited here as part of an organised tour in August 2022. From the outside, the castle is obviously stunning - pretty much exactly as you’d expect a fairytale castle to look. We bought our tickets online to save having to queue at the entrance so that’s worth doing.

Across the drawbridge and into the castle and you enter the courtyard. A lot of this was under renovation when we were there which was a little disappointing. Inside, there is some info in English and Romanian and it’s worth checking out the different rooms, one of which has photos / paintings of how the castle looked over the centuries. It’s been renovated that many times that it can be hard to see the original purpose of some rooms.

The inside definitely isn’t as impressive as the outside but there’s a lot to walk around and see inside if you want to.

The castle is a special building, but not very neat... I think the municipality could pay more attention to detalis and layout... it s pretty sad.
In one of the halls there was a troubadour which seemd broken from that ancient time arrived here just to delight our ears and take us back in his time...

This place seems to always be under renovation. It is very difficult for one to see the whole castle’s interior as it is always covered by ugly scaffolds. This time more than half of the interior walls wore cover and half the interior was inaccessible. Very frustrating. The outside is very nice and I would go just for that. The 38 Ron per adult entrance fee is not worth what you are going to see inside. Neamts Castle was far better. This one wasn’t worth the drive. If you are close enough, go take pictures of the outside and leave.

The castle looks massive and impressive from the outside, Great instagram photos potential.
As for the inside, at our third (and last) visit, there are less and less chambers open to the public. It is used as a film set, there seems to be a permanent movie set and the visitors get in the way. At 35 lei each you don't get to see much as you constantly hear excuse me", "cut", "please, wait for the staff to move props, thank you", "that room is closed for...whatever reason" etc. It left me with the impression that visitors are allowed only for monetary reasons, other than that they're mostly intruding.
Not returning anytime soon, if not ever.

From the outside this was definitely one of the most grand castles we saw in Transylvania but a big section was under renovation and so there was a lot of scaffolding and tarps. There were some decent expositions inside the castle with good narration in both English and Romanian but if felt like they could have done more to fill out the displays. Definitely worth the drive to see this castle.

This was our favorite castle in Romania and it was worth the drive out of the way on route from Cluj to Sibiu. It really exudes that Transylvanian mystique and is well preserved. There was no guided tour, but you can Google history of the castle and there is some information throughout the castle. When we arrived, there was a little re-enactment in the courtyard because there was a student group visiting so we used that as an opportunity to start our self-guided tour. There is not a lot of décor in the rooms, but that just enhances the architecture. There are a few antique pieces throughout the castle and there is a room with some costumes displayed that smell a bit like mothballs. There was a cool torture chamber as well. There were some nice photos on display in the gallery bridge and it was a nice place to take some pictures through the window openings. We visited the castle in the late morning and the sun was behind the castle so it was hard to get good pictures, but if you can visit in the early morning or late afternoon, you will get much better pictures of the exterior.

Welcome to the citadel of Hunedoara, which has become the castle of the most brilliant king of medieval Hungary, Matthias Corvinus.
The monument has a special charm due to its various construction styles, the presence of military and civilian innovations, as well as the tumultuous courtyard life that has animated it for over 400 years.
Corvin Castle impresses with its presence, which dominates the city of Hunedoara. For those attracted by the Middle Ages, the castle is a unique monument in Romania and among the most attractive in Europe.

This is the place to see in Hunedoara. Arguably one of the best Castles to visit in Europe. The place is sill going some mentainance and renovations so not all places are accessible, but the ones that are, are in good condition. You get the history of every corner of the Castle in English so no worrys if you don't speak the language. Also if you want to take photos with your Camera (not phone) you need to pay 1,10 Euros. If you schedule your trip right you get some very good medieval shows.

Wonderful castle that was kept in its original state as much as possible. Musicians made the atmosphere feel more medieval. The view was quite amazing.

1h30 was enough to visit it all.

It is a shame so many parts were closed to the public due to restauration works. Also, the staff should have more change, as the public can't always come with the exact sum.

We recommend!
