Whilst this is only a short ride, it saves a 45 minute walk up to the Castle on a hot day and gives excellent views of the city, bridge and river and the coast in the distance. The return fare is included in the 940 yen combination ticket (with the bridge and castle) and the ropeway's lower station is only a 5 minute walk from the bridge. The castle is another 5 minute walk from the top station.

Nothing negative here, it's a ropeway that does exactly as expected. It gets you from the bottom of the hill to the top near the castle. I've been up to the castle several times, I enjoy the hike but this time I wanted to try the ropeway. It was cheap and convenient. You can order tickets through the vending machine at the bottom. You can purchase one way tickets, roundtrip, or a combined ticket that includes the bridge, castle, and ropeway. The ropeway goes every 15 minutes and only takes a few minutes to get to the top. Once at the top, there is still a short walk to the castle. The gondola is spacious with large windows. If you are short on time or like me, just not in the mood for a hike, take the ropeway. It is easy and quick.

Iwakuni castle is on top of a hill and is framed by trees. A simple, fun and beautiful way to see it is by taking the gondola. The cost round trip is around 500 yen. The ride gives you a phenomenal view of Iwakuni City and Kintai Bridge. Highly recommend!

Not a lot to say - a nice cable car that takes you to the castle on the hill. Runs every 15 minutes and provides great views across Iwakuni.

It is common to take ropeway up to castles located at higher ground in hilly part of japan. Here the Iwakuni ropeway provides access from Kikko Park to Iwakuni castle. Quite a steep and upslope climb..
It offers a great amazing view of the bridge and the surrounding from the cable car.
We followed fellow TA advice and bought the round-trip ticket which is good for the bus (from Iwankuni sta), bridge, ropeway and castle and even discount to Museum. The lookout at the top is worthy of a photo opportunity (selfie anyone?).
There isn’t a lot to see around the higher ropeway station so it is best to just head straight up to the castle. There are no shops that sell souvenirs, just the office and vending machines. However there's also a small playground at the top for little kids and a larger mechanical clock Tower. We were lucky to be around at 12noon when the Clock plays out beautiful tune, to the delights of all of us around
We bought the combi tickets at a booth just outside JR Iwakuni Station. The bus ride from the station to bridge is about 20 minutes. I actually do not know of any alternative route besides hiking up the steep slope… so do enjoy the ropeway journey, and relax!

Climbing 200 metres, this quite steep ropeway gets you fairly quickly from Kikko Park to the top of the mountain range (and back down) with views that are in itself amazing.

The lookout at the top is worthy of a photo opportunity (selfie anyone?). Vending machines are available too if you need a drink. Iwakuni Castle is a short walk away should you wish to view it & its surrounding area.

Combination tickets for the bridge/ropeway/castle + return bus fares to bridge (1540 yen adult) are available at a booth just outside JR Iwakuni Station. The bus ride from the station to bridge is about 20 minutes.

JR Iwakuni Station is about 50 minutes from Hiroshima Station & 25 minutes from Miyajimaguchi Station.

A easy ride up the mountain. Has places to look out over the country side. Picture time for people that enjoy photography. Vending machines are available. A fairly short walk to the Iwakuni Castle from the "landing spot" of the Ropeway Car.

It's just a very normal ropeway, runs every 20 minutes. It takes less than 5 minutes to carry you up to the mountain top. Combined ticket includes return tickets for ropeway and the entrance fee for both bridge and castle.
