Food for your soul and food for your health. It is sessions like this that gives you broader perspectives and insight. Animal feeding secures the interest and attention from the kids :)

An absolute "must-do" in La Palma, and a good way of learning that bananas can be grown in a fully ecological (and not more expensive) way, by creating a new ecosystem. Fran is passionate about his project, and makes it accessible to anyone (including children). A bit pricey maybe, but in the end, the project is so important that we also need to give our contribution to it in some way, and encourage Platanologico to keep on going!

Fran speaks excellent english. He is easy going and passionated about his subject. You will learn all about the banana, the ecosystem of the finca, the difference between a monoculture operation using chemicals and organic farming. All your questions are welcome and will be answered in detail. The bananas we tasted were excellent. Amazing learning experience, a must do in La Palma. Thank you Fran.

We really enjoyed our visit here. We learned a lot on how banana's grow and what is needed to make the plantage biologic. Was really interesting. Fran is really passionate about what he does and really friendly. We stayed there for like 2 hours or so. They also have some nice animals which we could feed.
Really interesting and a must do when you're around.

At first when I saw this signposted I was a bit ambivalent. What could be so interesting about a banana plantation? Well, to answer that question in short; "All of it"'.
It's so much more than just a plantation. It shows the visitor a symbiotic self-sustaining eco-system. A different, so much better kind of farming. If only the rest of agriculture would make some progress in this direction.
Besides a nice walk in a mesmerising scenery, you can expect an informative (and funny) tour by the owner of the plantation. A man with a mission and a clear message to the world.
I'm very much aware €20,- seems a bit steep as an entrance fee. But I can assure you it's definitely worth it. Just don't look at it as a fee, but as a donation towards a good cause. You'll understand why ;)

Next to huge hotel Sol La Palma in Puerto Naos lies a hidden gem with an important and inspiring message. Make a guided visit in the shade of tropical plants at the Ecofinca Platanologico. A very easy walk with a number of comfortable stopping points. At the end you make a 20€ donation.
You get to taste their organic banana varieties and other tropical fruit. See their flowers, butterflies and farm animals. Listen to their engaged and inspired guide, in English. You get a good understanding of the banana industry, which is so important to the Canary islands. You also get a basic understanding of why organic farming is so important to the future if or planet. Don’t miss!
