Château du Tareau, nice visit
Jul 2020
Very nice visit. The trip there with the boat and the information given by the guides (only in french but OK) are very nice.
The fortress itself can easily be visited in the 1 hour time between to boattrips.
Very nicely restored and intresting welcome speach (due to covid-19)

2 hours of historical magic!

We stayed locally and decided to visit CDT one morning, our boat left at CET 10.00h.
In full sunny weather.

the trip out was snooth and the vessel most seaworthy. A very helpful crew too.

CDT stands alone in the bay like an island of it's own. Although the live talks are in French, we had english guides in both written and audio formats.

From an amazingly well preserved interior to stunning views from the ramparts, this is yet another of Vauban's masterpieces, homage to practicality and common sense.

In conclusion: totally positive all round, a very unique and must-do visit.

Interesting but small

We visited this week whilst staying in Carantec.
The boat left from the bay and took around 15mins.
We got a group price as there were 17 of us.
On arrival there was an introduction to the island. This was in French but we were given a very informative leaflet.
The chateau was very small but interesting. The views were amazing.
After 1 hour, the bell was rung to signal the boat being ready.

It brings history to life!

It was great to walk around an experience the atmosphere of the Chateau, and an excellent guidebook is provided (in French and English)) that explains the history and features of the building. The boat trip to get to the Chateau only adds to the experience. Great views also of the Baie de Morlaix from the tower.

Impressive but small

Nice short boat trip from Carantec to get to the Chateau du Taureau. Once in the fortress you’ll get a short introduction and then you’re free to walk around for an hour before taking the boat back to Carantec. The view up there is amazing ! And the fortress very well preserved. It’s quite small though, don’t expect something big like Fort Boyard :-)

Great site to visit

The Chateau du Taureau is a remarkable site in the Baie de Morlaix. While we were not is a position to take full advantage of the French-language presentation, the information (both on-line & the on-site leaflets) give plenty of insight to the life at this site.
Booking through the website was easy & the trip was well worth making.

beautiful ancient fortress in raising from the waters. a must see. history blends with nature for a great feeling of travelling back in time. there are places that seem to last forever together with what they symbolize and this is one of them.

Nice cruise to get to the Fort du Taureau with a lot of history hidden behind it, the tour guide did a pretty good resume of it's history but had no idea what the German did there during WWII - luckily I met a local specialist later on confirming my idea of the importance to stay there one night for my upcoming Brittany 2017 tour

The Alcatraz of Brittany!

This is great family trip, as it involves visiting an island prison. It has the added bonus for the British visitors that the fortress was originally built to fend off the English invaders!
There is an Audioguide available in English, which gives you more background to the history and the various uses to which the Chateau has been adapted over the centuries.
The boat trip itself is long enough to feel like an adventure but short enough not to worry about anyone feeling poorly.
Unless you choose to go during a theatre trip or other special event, there isn't a great deal of entertainment, but personally I prefer being left to explore rather than be shepherded around.
Hint: take your camera, as Morlaix Bay has a fabulous ornithology reserve and you'll get some lovely photos.

Great day out. Worth a visit. Make sure to ask if the tour guide speaks English.... Kids loved the history.
