A trip into mystery.
Sep 2020
Fascinating history, fact or fiction. Whatever to visit be part of this magical mystery adds to the charm of this remote village perched on top of this hill, The panoramic views are breath taking. Scenery not to be forgotten.

Lovely day!
Sep 2019 • Couples
My husband and I visited this lovely place for an afternoon out. We live in the Aude and make it a point to visit places we can drive and back easily within a day. The drive off the main roads was stunning and the the destination did not disappoint. There is a great deal of mystery concerning Berenger Sauniere and a visit to his home and museum made his life and contribution to history more real and not mystical. I totally recommend a visit.

Quaint museum and nice grounds
Jul 2019 • Friends
The museum itself is fine for the history of Sauniere. The exhibit signs are the majority in French with some English parts about the exhibit, but you get the drift. Stunning views outside along with shady garden area. There were tourists, but not too many to make it unbearable. Have one large loo for visitors just inside the first exhibit room. The museum can be done in about 1/2 hour and grounds another 1/2 hour.

interesting story
May 2019 • Couples
You pay for a ticket to enter the museum as well as the Chateau, tower etc.
We didn't have very long so we skipped a lot of the museum so we could see the grounds, buildings and stunning views.
The story of Rennes Le Chateau is very interesting and I would recommend reading up about it before you visit.
The museum has lots of information and artefacts to read and look at.
It's quite a touristy area so I would recommend going out of season or at the start or end of the day.

Nice and interesting little church, with a strange story.

The church is quite nice. Sadly a religious lunatic smashed the famous sculpture of Satan. Apparently she was stopped before she destroyed Mary.

I liked the little museum and the tower and found them both very interesting. It is best if you know something of the history of the area and Sauniere.

Staggering and worth the trek into nowhere.

WOW, so glad we went, fantastic museum and gardens and very quiet easy parking and the church is spell binding. Thought provoking and the wooden post and vial tell a story indeed.

This museum tells the fascinating history of the House and church and tries to explain where the money came from to build them. Great views from the gardens. A must for any visitor to the village

The Secret of the Priest explained.
Jul 2018 • Friends
By walking through the museum you get a good idea of the history of the town and the mysterious goings on around the late 19th, early 20th century priest Saunière, who allegedly found a treasure and from its profit he was able to build the Tour Magdala and the Villa Bethania, and create the gardens. He also renovated the church in such a way that people today are seeing symbolic messages in every statue and piece of art inside the church. What did he find? Maybe we will never know. But perhaps you will be the one who will recognize his message. ;)

Lovely staff and a great deal of information available about the mysteries surrounding the church and village. The gardens are nice and the views are worth every cent. You do get to see some of the chateau and when you take a moment to look at the amazing decor you begin to understand that there had been a great deal of money spent here. It is worth reflecting on the fantastic colours in the entrance to the chateau. It certainly a place which raises more questions than answers but the pictures of times past are fascinating and the museum gives a good introduction into mysteries which may never be solved. A nice English video guide is available in one of the rooms and there are translated guides available on tablet computers for an extra price. There are local shops and restaurants available locally. A definite must if you are in the area but be warned it is a steep drive up on a very narrow road!

Not Much to See

With our small tour group, we visited the Presbytere museum. There are some recreated scenes with mannequins showing events from the lives of people important to Rennes le Chateau. The museum is worth a quick visit if you're in the town.
