Spirit Mountain's Ecological Reserve and Organic Coffee Plantation is...

Spirit Mountain's Ecological Reserve and Organic Coffee Plantation is nestled high in the foot hills of the Cordillera Central Mountain Range. The Farm is located at at the far reaches of Angostura de Manabao, approximately 15 miles from Jarabacoa, 3 miles beyond Manabao. This is rugged land and unpaved roads, so if your not up for an adventure, you may not want to venture this far into the mountains of Hispaniola. We are an operating Coffee Plantation...not a tourist attraction. During a visit, you are likely to see typical operations related to producing some of the worlds best coffees. Harvesting season is from January through April, if you would like to try your hand at picking coffee. Learn about sustainable organic farming first hand, see the rarest endemic birds of Hispaniola or just kickback up at our rustic camp site, Camp Spirit Discovery. During the off season, our crews will be planting coffee, taking care of the shade canopy and performing general farm maintenance. We cater to those interested in more than just a vacation. The farm is open all day every day for self guided yours. The farm is on google maps, and you can check in with Rosa, the plantation manager's wife. Their house is directly in front of the farm on the right hand side of the road, about 100 meters from the farm entrance. if you let Rosa know a couple of hours in advance, she will prepare you a typical lunch, with some of our fresh roasted coffee! It is easy to spend an entire day trekking around the farm and only experience a small portion of what there is to see. Be prepared for a challenging drive up to the farm. Recent improvements to the 700 meter long access road makes the property "almost" 2 wheel drive accessible. If your interested in spending a night or more at Spirit Mountain, there are VERY rustic accommodations at Camp Spirit Discovery, located at an elevation of approximately 4,000 feet. It can get pretty chilly at these elevations, especially in the winter months, so bring plenty of warm clothes. There is a rustic kitchen complete with running water and a wood fired bread oven. Bring your own sleeping bags, but there are some mattresses in the two story open bungalows. If you would like more comfortable accommodations, there is a great little eco-lodge run by the community that has hot water and they will prepare you meals if you like. This is great way to get to know the locals! Come learn with us! You will leave changed.

Spirit Mountain is a biodiversity paradise. We visited this farm during an agroforestry workshop to share with participants the good management practices they are implementing. We saw how coffee and wood trees, birds, bees and different sort of lives interact in this ecosystem.

Spirit Mountain is an amazing place for adventure activities and also to relax. We loved the whole experience. We did rapel, zip line and we hiked to the beautiful waterfall. We ate marshmallows on the bonfire and made amazing pizzas on the wood oven. Looking forward to go again soon. 😍😍

Think twice or even more times before you decide to go to visit this place. To begin with, the place's address that you can see on tripadvisor is incorrect!! It is not situated in Jarabacoa itself, but in the mountains in about 25 km away from the town. Though you can understand it from the previous reviews that the place... More

Marianik, I am sorry you had such a bad experience trying to get to Spirit Mountain. I find it interesting that you wrote this review in May of this year, just two months ago and had such a bad time of it. I do apologize that you were under the impression that the farm was in Jarabacoa...not 15 miles away.... More

This location will chance forever what you think you know about the Caribbeans. We camped there for a weekend. The best mountain camping site on the island. Hiking/Moutain Biking trails. Amazing environment. Road to access is way better now than what it was a few years ago.

I love coffee and had really looked forward to trekking out to this place while in Jarabacoa for a week. I drove out there and found the drive pleasant for the most part, though a bit dicey in spots since I was in a small car (without 4wd). The directions on the website were good, though it was definitely one... More

I can not speak about the place. I speak of the journey. We could not reach it. The road was secluded, poor, and dangerous. We were a bit scared, really. We would read the signs and followed our google waze, but the place was not reached. We stopped 1km till arriving at the place after a 60 minute drive, solely... More

Jose, Sorry for the poor experience attempting to arrive to Spirit Mountain. I hope that someday you will indeed be able to experience this beautiful place that is so close to my heart....and to so many others. I find it sort of interesting that you had so much trouble. From the concrete bridge, crossing the Arroyo Grande, it is only... More

This place is jaw droppingly beautiful. To get there is a wonderful ride through Jarabacoa and up into the mountains with tons of awesome sights to look at along the way as you pass through a couple of small villages. Once you get to the camp, there is no shortage of things to do, whether that be hiking just for... More

This off the beaten path plantation has a lot to offer. There is good signage throughout, marking trails. There are also good lookout places for bird watching. Many, if not all, of the DR's endemic bird species can be found here. Lastly, there is a pretty challenging mountain bike course. We didn't bike at all on our visit. I'm not... More

Imagine an organic coffee plantation at 4,000 ft elevation in the Dominican mountains where few tourists venture. It is only 1.5 hour from the busy Santiago airport serviced by 6 different U.S. airlines. And minutes from some of the best white water rafting anywhere. Chad Wallace has a social vein in his heart and soul and is committed to an... More
