- JN17 contributionsBeautiful and worth itBeautiful, beware the 20 min hike down, which is really pretty but it takes time. It’s completely worth it. When I went there was a little bit of rubbish at the foot of the waterfall, authorities and people should keep it cleanVisited July 2022Traveled soloWritten July 2, 2022
- Kathleen P14 contributionsWELL WORTH A VISIT, BEAUTIFUL SCENERY.Organized trip from our hotel with a very helpful guide. Very well maintained walkways alongside the river and bridges and steps. Got my daughter to take pictures of the waterfall itself as it is quite a climb up steps in a forested canyon past the hydro plant. Lots of native plants and wildfowl on the river.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 12, 2023
- MD_T0uristNew Jersey222 contributionsSalto Uno (ala Jurassic Park, well sort of)It took me a while to figure out where everything is so I’m going to try to clarify a few things here for others. We went to Salto Jimenoa Uno because the suspension bridges to Salto Jimenoa 2 remain collapsed as of late June 2018. Uno is the fall they used in the beginning of Jurassic Park, but I would recommend you watch the clip AFTER you visit Uno. The entrance is a little dirt road down the main Jarabacoa-Constanza road located at the 7 km to Jarabacoa marker if you are coming from the south/east, and past the 40 km to Constanza marker if you are coming from Jarabacoa. If you zoom in on Google Map, you can actually see the little dirt road connected to the actual trail. The coordinates are (19.0918206,-70.5983940). There is a small area for parking (3-4 cars) once you drive to the bottom. The shed (see picture) where you pay for the entrance is difficult to see from the road, and you will get one free bottle of water for the round trip hike. I would recommend the following if you want to see this much discussed waterfall: 1. Wear good shoes with good traction. The rocks near the fall are very slippery when only mildly wet. With some searching you can find suitable natural hiking sticks, but you might wish to bring your own. 2. Don’t go if it’s rainy. The climb down is very steep (at places 45 degrees of incline or more), and with leaves rocks and mud you can easily slide down. We do quite a bit of hiking and we were slipping at places. 3. The climb back up can be very strenuous if you have not gotten used to the humidity. There are 3-4 benches where you can rest, but you need to be comfortable climbing steep hills in high humidity to do this. 4. Go only if you want to appreciate a serene and elegant water fall, but NOT if you want to see the Jurassic Park waterfall or the biggest waterfall in the Caribbean.Visited June 2018Traveled as a coupleWritten June 23, 2018

- AshwabayWashburn, Wisconsin117 contributionsSalto de Jimenoa 1. Nice! This attraction entry on TripAdvisor is confusing. There are two separate waterfalls, with two very separate ways to get to each. They are both waterfalls on the Rio Jimenoa. The upper falls is called Salto de Jimenoa 1 and is approached from the west, off the Jarabacoa to Constanza road. The lower falls, Salto de Jimenoa 2 is approached from the north and east, coming in off the Federico Basilis road from Jarabacoa - La Vega road, past the Jarabacoa golf course. You can go directly between the two falls on a very treacherous trail, not recommended. Having them listed as one on TripAdvisor is going to confuse many people. This is a review of Salto de Jimenoa 1, the upper falls. This was one of the locations used in the film Jurassic Park. There is an entrance fee here. I think it was 100 pesos ($2.50), and young children were free. There is a gate at the steep entrance to the parking area off the highway. Just to the right of the gate is a little booth where they collect the fees. I don't know the hours, but beware if coming at unusual hours. Really no place to safely park close by on the highway at the entrance if the gate is closed. The trail down to the falls is administered by a local cooperative, so all the monies are used locally on the project. Our entrance fee also got us a guide. He only spoke Spanish, but he was very careful to speak slowly and clearly, so he was easy to understand for non-native speakers. He was also knowledgeable. There are some good multi-lingual interpretive signs on the switchback trail to the falls; they cover plants, animals, geology, etc.. The trail goes through some very nice high humid forest with lots to see for the naturalist. Takes about 15-20 minutes going down, nearly twice that going up. It is very steep, and if you are out of shape, this is not the trail for you - try the lower falls. The falls themselves are very picturesque, with a lovely pool at the base. You can go for a swim, but it is moderately cool water, not tropical. There are no facilities at the base, so try to plan accordingly.Visited April 2013Traveled with familyWritten May 2, 2013
- Don P61 contributionsPick the best Salto JimenoaThere are at least two waterfalls called Salto Jimenoa. The one most often reviewed here is usually just called "Salto Jimenoa" and is located above the hydropower plant on the road that takes off of Rt. 28 east of Jarabacoa and goes by the golf club (see https://geolocation.ws/v/P/2429228/salto-de-jimenoa-jarabacoa/en ). The other, larger falls, is on a path down from the Jarabacoa-Constanza road, and is usually called "Salto Jimenoa Uno". This is the one where the Jurassic Park opening scene was filmed. There are no hanging bridges to negotiate, just a fairly steep downhill path. We accepted the guide's offer to go with us and that was good, not because we would have gotten lost, but because he is well informed, helpful, and charming. He said: "just pay whatever you choose when we're done". There are ecological signs along the way in English and Spanish. A really beautiful spot! Watch for confusion: the two Saltos seem to have interchangeable names, though they are quite different.Visited December 2014Traveled as a coupleWritten December 21, 2014

But, these falls have been closed for over a year. The normal entrance is locked up because one of the suspension bridges was destroyed by a rock slide. - revalignNew York City, New York1 contributionDangerously magnificentWent to visit with a group. Indeed an amazing sight. But trip almost turned to tragedy due to the strong currents. Stay away from the water when the falls are strong. The currents and undertow towards the waterfall are too strong to beat. We also saw a whirlpool form a few yards in front of the falls. Enjoy the view but don't mess with its majestic power.Visited July 2017Written July 20, 2017

We took a local taxi to the waterfall and paid a small entrance fee (around 50 or 100 pesos). It was a short walk over the hanging bridges to the waterfall and took about 30 m inutes to visit. We both liked it a lot and if you have a few hours to do nothing at Jarabacoa I would really recommend the visit.

It's got some nice pool areas to bathe in and the water is the perfect temperature, so bring a swimsuit. I have a real issue with garbage and empty bottles strewn all over the path and which sometimes inevitably ends up in the water. The falls are small, but it's a nice walk and has a series of suspension bridges that I found fun to cross for whatever reason. We saw plenty of birds, and there is a small kiosk area by the falls where you can buy a cold drink and a snack. Don't expect anything outstanding, but if there's nothing else to do and you have transportation and 100 pesos for the entry, then it's adequate.

We got there by rental car. It was a bit complicated to find the right road, but succeeded with Google maps. Parking lot is paid (about 100 RDS) with a small stall to refresh yourself. Then you walk 200m down the road to the brigde where is the actual entrance (fee about 50 RDS / person).
From here you walk up along the river - first half mostly on cable bridges, sencond half normal pathway with stairs. Whole distance about 1km or less (easy difficulty). The river is nice, full of huge boulders lying on rocks of different colours, small ponds in between and crystal water - whole set in a small canyon.
At the end of the path you reach a platform from which you have a look on the waterfall itself which is beatiful and really big. But you can't reach the pond under it, nor swim in it and the view is kind of limited. The only swiming place is a small pond in the middle of the way there with sandy shore. We walked around few stones up the stream and had a private natural jacuzzi (water level was low, so no strong streams, it was safe).
We were at the end of November and met just 4 other visitors during about one hour.
If you have way to Jarabacoa it's a nice trip, not breathtaking. But if you're into something a littble more adventurous/less people I recommend the other waterfall to the south-east of Jarabacoa (on the main road to Constanza about 7 km from Jarabacoa, almost no signs, you have to ask people). There are actually three waterfall places around Jarabacoa.

Great question.... Not sure if there's an official policy for/against pets.... Even if there was, doubtful if it would be enforced.
