This must be the most belated review ever, but it'd be remiss not to write about my excellent time with Surf School Sri Lanka back in Nov. 2019.  Basically, everything has been said, just not by everybody. Others have described the day to day schedule around meditation, surfing, video analysis and yoga in greater detail than I would. I just wanted to highlight two specific aspects that are think are truly special about this place: 1) The technical level of the teaching is not only better compared to what I've seen in two previous, quite serious surf schools, but simply on another level. Tim has really developed the didactics of surfing into something of a science. I've been surfing a couple of times before, but only here did I really learn about the basic stuff like vision, correct paddling, the pop up or foot positioning and there'd be so much more were I a more advanced surfer. Dan's and Janis' ability to catch every small mistake from the videos in real time is uncanny and they never get tired to explain how one can improve. Which brings me to my second point: 2) Being a good surfer is one thing, and certainly Dan, Janis, Seraina and Tharaka are good surfers. I really appreciated, though, that they also are truly passionate surf teachers as well. Otherwise they couldn't pay as close attention to each student's distinct surf and learning opportunities as they do and evidently (and somewhat heartwarmingly) take pride in his surfing progression. Its actually really exemplary and enviable what kind of attitude they have for their craft, and this helps one to try harder in the training as well. Last but not least, they're a cool bunch, so you enjoy spending the time with them. If you're thinking about joining the school and came so far as to check these reviews out, do your surfer-self a favour and decide for it. I'm surely looking forward going back once this damn once-in-a-century pandemic is finally over. Thanks y'all and best regards, Eugen

What an amazing review , thanks so much and the 2 points you made are so relevant to the the coaching system we have developed...but its not easy to learn and takes special coaches to deliver it. We are blessed with our team and with their patience and in depth knowledge of surfing and surf technique. When Covid is over we really hope to have you back with us and of course please check out the Surf Insight YouTube coaching channel and subscribe as we really want to spread this technical approach to surfing that you liked so much. They will check this out and yes, they are cool folks , in the nicest way and I am super proud of them.

Excellent surf coaching by Dan, Janis, Seraina & Tharaka. They have taught me more in the 10-day course than what I have learnt from numerous surf lessons I had during the last 3.5 years. Thanks to all the amazing surf coaches, Karen (yoga instructor), and all the other friendly staff at the surf school. :) We will definitely come back!

First time I joined the school in Lanzarote 2013, I was more or less a beginner. Tim coached me over the course of 3 weeks and I saw my surfing improve immensely! Especially skills around longboarding, being more ocean and water adverse, but most importantly etiquette and safety. Many schools don't teach you this! Tim's passion and way of teaching is what I valued mostly, hence I have always recommended the school to all my friends and family. Fast forward to February 2020, I took the 10 day course in Sri Lanka. This time my surfing skill was more or less intermediate. I was learning to turn and riding shorter boards. Not only was the school amazing as usual, the type of waves Sri Lanka offer are perfect for the intermediate surfer. After each morning's surf, it was followed by delicious and healthy lunch which also cater for those with special dietary needs. Then, daily video analysis is probably one of the most helpful things to help your surfing. The video breaks downs show your good and bad habits. The instructors Dan and Janis are professional in how they inform you of the mechanics and physics of surfing manoeuvres which help you understand how you can improve. Land simulation was also key in helping your style, stance and vision. If you are 100% committed to taking your surfing to the next level then I highly recommend. It's a shame with what is going on in the world surrounding covid-19, but make sure you support these guys especially if you want to improve your surfing! Sri Lankan locals are also very friendly and kind. All in all, Tim's passion for surfing is like not other. I have been to so many surf schools and nothing quite is the same. It's clear Tim's passion has passed on to Dan. Thanks guys! See you again :)

Dan and Yanis were informative, patient and friendly coaches that broke down all components of surfing in a way that anyone could pick up. I loved the people, the breakfasts, the curriculum and the perfect surf spot we would surf each day. I would highly recommend this school to anyone. I learnt far more than I expected and will plan a trip to back there next year.

I came here with a bunch of surfer friends from Sydney Australia. We’re all intermediate and wanted solid surf coaching and consistent quality waves. That’s exactly what we got. There’s plenty of “surf camps” around but most are just trying to cash in, with basic coaching only. Here they actually know what they’re doing, are accredited, and lay it out in detail, breaking it down to give you very personalised advice specific to your own level, whether you need to work on stance, to getting your first cut back, or more advanced turns as generating spray and power. Loved the video analysis and also the local brekkie every day. Very genuine and friendly crew. Would 100% go back.

Thanks so much for that great review and we are so proud there is a big difference from what we offer to the usual surf school and camp. But there is 38 years of development behind this system and we all feel we still have a long way to go . It would be so great to have you back and don't forget to keep in touch with any surf related questions in the meantime ... see you next season we hope and thanks again from all of us
