Kirinda Buddhist Temple is a quiet and serene temple located on the south coast. According to folklore, this temple was built by King Kavantissa. This is a place with a variety of experiences to visit and have fun and the temple has a lot of history to tell. The temple and its surroundings feel very peaceful. The view from the top of the temple was amazing. !!! But, the beach is a very unsafe place to swim and bathe. However, it is a beautiful place and I love it a lot. ❤️😇

This is an ancient temple Sri Lanka which has a lot of stories behind. You can visit the kirinda beach also which close by. Nice beautiful beach to visit in an evening. Sea gets aggressive most of the time so be extra cautious before having a bath.

Kirinda Buddhist temple is one of the very ancient temples situated Kirinda in Sri Lanka. you have to climb up to reach this beautiful but historical temple. When you reach near to the temple, firstly you can see a Large Buddha statue in front of the temple. you will feel the peacefulness as soon as you see this Buddha statue. Inside the temple, you can see some statues of the great Kings of Ancient Sri Lanka. A very peaceful place to visit.

Temple is on the rocks and view the ocean. I have totaly fel in love with the legendry story of this temple too. The princess who had sacrified herself for her people and left her country with a little boat and a little food and a king who had believed he had to marry with a woman who comes from the sea:)) They found eachother at Kirinda:)

Place which have a history. Be careful if you r going to the sea. Don't even think about bathing in the sea. There is a huge list of the people who drowned at this place.

This is an important part of Sri Lankan history. Where our great queen Vihara maha devi landed. I love the fact that it's lovely to stay on the rock & watch the sea & you can even climb down to the beach. It could get a bit crowded so morning might be the best time to visit.

Kirinda is a small town in Kataragama - Tissamaharama road about 10 km from Tissamaharama. Most of the people miss this beautiful place since this is little away from the main road.
But I think this is a must visit place if you visit Kararagama and a place you can visit throughout the year.
The ancient temple build in 2nd century BC attracts many pilgrims. There is a legend around this place on "Princess Vihara Maha Devi" who is the mother of "King Dutugemunu" a very famous king who saved his country, nation and the religion from its enemies.
A magnificent view of the sea with its long stretch of beach can be seen on top of the rock. The sea at the bottom of the rock boulders is very rough though very beautiful.
A huge statue of Buddha ( standing) is there on top the rock. And also a statue of Princess Viharamaha Devi too is there.

Culturel and religious value for locals.in fact new additions like statue of standing Buddha has spoiled the historical and architectural value of this place.Visiting this place among others is Ok. dedicated travel to this place would be a waste
