Small museum with wonderful treasures.

Quaint museum with a collection of hand made clerical fabrics and jewels found on site.
Video in several languages explain the jewels in detail. The intendant was very hospitable.
Chiavenna is a small Italian town worth visiting for its caves and natural cauldrons.

It's not the easiest place to find, and I had to knock on the door (also the docent didn't speak any english, bummer), but the pieces are impressive and well displayed.

A small but important part of history

This is a small museum but has some wonderful treasures. The other reviews are really accurate as well as the photos. Note you have to press the button to the left of the door to enter. It may appear closed and the door will not open until you press the lock. They have a short video worth watching, they have it in several languages. The video explains all the items and their history. Well worth it.

"La Pace" real masterpiece from Middle Age and a very modern museum
Feb 2016 • Couples
La pace (the peace)is an impressive masterpiece of gold and precious stones coming from previous Roman period and from far away even from Sri Lanka. The way it has been made and origin of components open a window on that old time astoningshly global!
Anyway the whole piece is really nice and full of spirit even for those are not believers.
Museum is well organized with a clear and complete introduction to la pace, in any language, and it can be seen through a magnifier that shows details. A lady, well prepared, is introducing also to the other items and is ready to give any information also about the nice city of Chiavenna

A spiritual gem nestled amongst mystical mountains

Adjacent to the beautiful Church of San Lorenzo in Chiavenna is the Museo del Tesoro, a small but exquisite museum containing a variety of religious artefacts of the Catholic Church. From the brilliance of the "Pace de Chiavenna" to ancient artworks, priestly vestments, chalices & rosaries, this museum is in pristine condition. Although English is limited (as in the whole of Chiavenna), the curator is both knowledgable & passionate about the treasures she cares for. It's also worth taking the time to watch the short video (in English & other languages) describing both the artistic creation & religious symbolism of the "pace". When you're finished, visit the Church of San Lorenzo to see the huge baptismal font, the various small chapels & to light a prayer candle (unfortunately electric candles, not real wax candles). The atmosphere in the Church & museum has not yet been commercialised & as such leaves one inspired & awed by works created to the glory of God.

Small but fascinating

The Museo del Tesoro has a fine collection of treasures that were collected by the local Catholic church. These include medieval metal work as well as ecclesiastical robes and art for churches. The metalwork is priceless. Check out the church next door. If you are lucky, you will find the organist practicing. It's gorgeous.
