A very attractive feature of the whole complex of the Collegiate Church of San Lorenzo is its four-sided portico with slender columns, often slightly tapering and convex or with an entasis, made from locally quarried 'pietra ollare', a steatite or soapstone.
The big lawn in the middle used to be a cemetery, while in the cross vaults behind the colonnade could once be found the funeral chapels for the local nobility. Some tombstones and coat-of-arms have been left. The whole portico dates from the end of the 17th century and was made by craftsmen from the Ticino, working in the Renaissance style.
