It begins at the Mundaring Weir near Perth and ends in Kalgoorlie, 575km away. The original design included 8 steam driven pump stations. Five of the original stations survive today however only pump station 8 at Daredin is in the best condition. Pump Station 3 at Cunderdin has been converted into an excellent museum. The staff will provide useful material about the Golden Pipeline on request. With the exception of Pump station 1, at the Weir and Pump Station 3 (Cunderdin Museum) the rest have been fenced off due to safety reasons. It is hoped that Pump Station 8 would be opened soon. To access Station 8, make an appointment with the caretaker. The contact number can be obtained from the Cunderdin museum staff. The surviving pump stations can be easily accessed from the Great Eastern Highway but access to Station 8 requires travel along a gravel road for about 2.5km. The road is suitable for 2wd. Access to the top of the Mundaring weir has been fenced off but both sides can be easily accessed via sealed roads. Pump Station 1 opens from 12pm to 4.30pm and Cunderdin Museum from 10am.

Check out the old pump house, browse the history of the dam and pipeline, take a walk over the wall and many of the paths that criss cross the area then have a barbeque or picnic while watching the bird life and Kangaroos that live in the area. If you are thirsty you can drop into the old Mundaring Weir pub for a quite drink. PJ Barker auther of the novel Changing Pillion.

We had seen the series on the building of the Kalgoorlie Pipe Line on TV. How good was it to go into this museum and see first hand the story of a truly fascinating time in our history. The pump house is incredible. Try to imagine this and others along the way choofing out steam and smoke to pump the water. The whole story incredible. The museum is so good and we thank the volunteers for such. Turning back time to see things we no longer have in our rushing modern world.
