We walked up to the distillery from Port Ellen. Very good bike/walk path separated from the road and safe for children with gorgeous scenery. We also visited the Laphroaig and Ardbeg distilleries on this walk. I rate Lagavulin the best for atmosphere with its decor...More

This distillery is in one of the prettiest spots on the island, with a ruined castle just off shore. The tour itself is the best I took, explaining really well how the whisky is made. And, while many distilleries are having a "quiet time" in...More

This distillery seems a bit stuffy when you enter, however the tour was very enjoyable. Annoyingly you are not allowed to take pics on the tour. Some other distillerys on the island however do allow this. There are however great photo opps on the pier...More

I went on the distillery tour and later the sensory tasting experience. Both of which I would highly recommend and complemented one another. It was my first distillery visit on Islay and a more warm and welcoming reception I couldn't have hoped for. Many thanks...More

Paul and Ian were amazing and we drank a lot of whiskey, my favourite. We had a great time there. Definitely lagavulin guides, tours and launge were the best of our trip. I would highly recommend the warehouse trip, it is a nice friendly environment...More

We visited all 8 of the Islay distilleries, and looked forward to Lagavulin, one of our favorites, saving it to the near the end. We looked around the shop, and noticed a couple expressions that we were interested in, especially a distillery-exclusive whisky. I asked...More

Booking in advance is essential! If you are not staying on Islay, you need to check several days in advance that there is space on the ferry for your car. It wasn't easy getting through to the distillery on the phone. We could not get...More

The distillery tour was standard fare but the warehouse demonstration was great. The host Ian is a real character. He knows everything about Lagavulin and tells one amusing story after another. We took turns to draw samples from casks some of which were old and...More

My wife and I had a great experience at the Lagavulin Distillery. The tour was very informative about distilling in general as well as providing some insight as to what gives their whiskey it's distinct flavor. The staff was very pleasant to us and our...More

Jackie was our guide and was witty and informative; we learned a lot, but couldn't understand why no photos allowed inside. It's hardly a secret process, and the stills are very photographic. Had my head blown off when I sniffed a wash tank; cleared my...More

They will mail it to you. But as we discovered three weeks ago we did not need to use it since we booked both the distillery tour and the warehouse tasting. If you book both, the distillery tour is free. I did not know that.

If you take a tour you will be paying more than twice the price that you can do it by yourself and your not on their timetable. That is if you don't mind driving. I'm from the US we drive on the right and it was fine for me... More

We arrived at Lagavulin without an appointment and the staff were charming and very welcoming. We did not tour the actual distillery (we didn't have time that day), but we were able to have a tasting, learn about the history... More
