The highest village is the Canary Islands. The coldest too. It was 8C when we were there, and at the same time it was 20C on the coast. The main church was a little interesting, but not much going on elsewhere. Many of the restaurants were closed too. Only one had some vegetarian options. So, not really worth the effort.

Said to be highest placed village on Tenerife (about 1400m) and the it has very fresh and clear air. Really nice central square with nice cafe (good cakes!).
DO NOT MISS the small drive/walk up to the giant pine trees (Pino Gordo) just 1,3 km out of town (uphill).

You can drive up or take the local bus from the southern holiday areas leaving around 9.45 am returning from the village at about 4pm. If you take the latter option you will be spending the day in the village but with tea or coffee break and a leisurely lunch the times soon goes. Apart from the picturesque nature of the village streets and the extensive views there are also several places of interest to see, including the two churches already mentioned and the famous water processing factory. The village square has a lovely cafe restaurant on one side and you can have a very reasonable meal with local options and a jug of wine at relatively little cost. the bus fare was just 12 euro's return for two. Be aware however that when the cloud comes down as it has on past visits it can turn very cold and and the area loses some of its charm. So choose your day and have a quiet interlude in rural Tenerife. It also appears to be a hub for several walking routes through the surrounding countryside

We have stayed in Vilaflor two times now and absolutley love it. It is a real charming unspoilt location in Tenerife away from all the hustle and bustle. The village square has been recently renovated and still currently adding the final touches. It has a little market behind the church on Sundays where you can buy local goods made my all the locals. I would definately recommend their biscuits, especially the Rosquettas, they are delicious! The village has two churches which are beautiful inside. There are a three small supermarkets and various restaurants, our favourite was Rincon de Roberto which i would highly recommend.
I find it a shame that almost everyone that drives to Mount Tiede and the national park for the day just past straight through Vilaflor on the main road, without stopping and taking a look around, seeing the little square and what it really has to offer.

We spent an hour or so in Vilaflor and found it to be a beautiful, peaceful place. The area around the churches in particular are tranquil and quiet. Well worth spending some time here to recharge the batteries.

We first visited Vilaflor nearly twenty years ago and were struck by the huge difference between this little town and the coastal resorts. For starters, it is in completely different climate zone - with orange and lemon trees, olives and vines. And it can be very cold and misty, with thin air (not a good place for those with respiratory disorders). Secondly, this is a totally Spanish speaking area - but the shop keepers and cafe owners are friendly and helpful. When the sun is out you can see women sitting near the Church of San Juan working on the lace which is on sale in the shops nearby.
The town square has been given a thorough make-over recently. It now has a lovely water feature running from the top end to the fountain at the bottom.
The place has great significance in the history of Hermano Pedro, the only Canarian saint. He was born in a house very close to the church of San Juan and his birthplace has been made into a sanctuary. Both churches are well worth visiting - the sanctuary especially so in the Christmas season when it has a beautiful crib scene.
There are several places to eat near the town centre - there is also a shop selling the locally made cakes and biscuits!

A very pleasant little town to stop for a wander and a drink prior to driving on to Teide. The town square is a nice area and plenty of cafes are available to sit and relax in. 2 churches close by are worth a visit - Iglesia de San Pedro and La Iglesia Parroquial de San Pedro. Both are simple but lovely and peaceful places - not to be missed.
Take time out and stop in this town.

Vilaflor is a beautiful unspoilt village high in the hills near Mount Teide. There are lovely walks in the area, for example, in the pinewoods. Since it is so high-about 4000 ft above sea level, you need to be aware that it is often in cloud. However, in my opinion, the lovely village is well worth a visit.

The Town Council must be feeling proud of itself - all the disruption of improving the main square has now produced a most beautiful sight. We were lucky of course, as the weather was sunnier and more settled than we have experienced for years, but the fact remains that this new Square is a joy to behold!
As ever, both the old church and the Sanctuary are very well worth a visit - we attended a lovely Mass (services are at 5.00pm on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays). And the Bar/Restaurante La Fuente looks even more welcoming than ever!

Often the weather in this town is chilly or misty - but yesterday we went there on a sunny day. All the flowers were in bloom and the main square, with its waterfall and fountain, looked truly beautiful. Moreover, it was the feast of the Holy Cross, so there were flowery crosses on the walls!
