Situated near to the village of Vilafor. Well signposted and a small car park so that you can walk down to the tree. It has the widest girth of any tree in Spain, and had been around since the earliest inhabitants of the island. Lots of good information boards. Don't forget to visit the other pine tree on the opposite side of the road , which is the tallest tree in Spain. Stunning trees. Be aware it does get very busy , so best to go early in the morning or late afternoon

Worth a short stop on the way to Teide from Vilaflor to see this enormous pine.

There are usually some friendly jewellery vendors here, and the Guancha man, with whom you can get your photo taken, holding his wee goat (that alone is worth the stop!).

Not worth a trip extra to see it, but if it’s on your route, it’s beautiful. A lovely place to stretch your legs.

Be aware! There are groups of thieves operating there as in whole Tenerife. We were robbed in 5 mins while we were taking pictures of that tree. Locked car done professionally in 5 mins without any visible damage. Everything was stolen. Our holidays were destroyed. We could not believe. Very unsafe island.

The tree is great; the views are breathtaking; the area is fantastic - worth a brief visit if it's on your way!

Thursday 9th December we had been to visit the mountain village of Vilaflor and our next stop was here.

It is located about 1.4 kilometres, outside the village, along TF-21 in the direction of Llano de Ucanca.

We parked up along the road side in the car park area and made our way to the entrance.

There are two entrances, one has paved stone steps down to the viewing platform, the other is a paved ramp. We used the steps in and ramp out

It really is a massive sight, a rustic sign nearby gives the dimensions of the tree which are, height of 45.12 metres, circumference of 9.36 metres and maximum width of 3.16 metres.

PIno Gordo is a gigantic example  of  Canarian pine (Pinus canariensis) and is reportedly the second tallest tree in Spain.

From  the small circular platform there were views back towards Vilaflor across a small forest.

By the entrance was a woman selling jewellery, which she claimed to be hand made. There was also an old guy down by the tree selling stuff.

Impressive pines in beautiful pine forest setting. El Pino Gordo is just 1.3 km out of Vilaflor, going up the mountain road towards Teide.

Gosh, people, in the land sadly deprived of sequoias this is definitely a place to go if you're into BIG FAT trees. A unique natural feature not to be missed!

It's located nearby Vilaflor just a kilometer towards to Teide. If you are driving from Vilaflor to Teide via road TF-21 it's easy to take a short break. It was the biggest canary island pine which I saw during my visit to Tenerife.
