I've just returned from a trip with Engagi Tours led by my guide Brian. I am beyond pleased with the entire process from start to finish. The price is was given was reasonable for the superb level of service provided. As a single female traveler it was very important to me to feel safe and well looked after. So, ladies pack your bags! Brian did not miss a beat! He was punctual, knowledgeable and kind. His English is perfect. He is calm and informative and no request was too much. I told him that New Yorkers are hard to please, but Brian and Engagi rose to the challenge! I flew in to Kigali and stayed overnight at a hotel there. Breakfast was great in the hotel. The staff was attentive to my every need and also allowed me to leave a big duffel bag there for a few days when I left for Uganda, the next morning. We then made it to Lake Bunyonyi resort owned by Robert. It's a long drive, not easy to get too (but many things worth seeing are not easy to get to)!. The ride is a scenic one and the resort is very beautiful. There was a lot of attention to details at the resort and it's quite an incredible ecosystem. The staff gave me the rundown on the area and the topography. If you need a hairdryer there are none, but I don't use one. The staff is beyond attentive and no request was too much. The food at the resort was AMAZING and I've learned the chef is quite young, My entire trip price covered, room, board (breakfast, lunches while on the move (packed for me!) and dinners) the vehicle, permits for gorilla trekking, the Batwa trail with the pygmies (which was another fun and scenic hiking experience) entrance fees and my incredible guide Brian for 5 FULL days. The gorilla trekking was memorable @ Bwindi. But choose what is right for you because there are several places to trek. I like Kisoro town as well, one of the overnight stops on my trip where I walked the 4 hour Batwa trail with the pygmies. One thing I'd like to suggest is that when you get to the parks for whatever experience you choose, TAKE A PORTER! First, it's such a cool/nice option to have someone clear the trees in front of you and assist you with a hand when you need it on the trail. But for $15, the cost of the porter, you are helping someone's family. It's worth EVERY penny of that $15 to see how much the ability to work and be of service means to the porter. Also, please tip the guides. The people in the hotels and the guides work very hard, many with large families to support. Tourism is everything to them. So, please understand how meaningful your gratuity is. Brian also took me to an amazing coffee pit stop on our journey. Let me tell you that in my life, I've never had a better cup of coffee! Lastly, if you like souvenirs (handicrafts) Brian knows where to go for nicely price authentic items. Just make sure you have cash for the shops. None take credit cards. LASTLY, enjoy! These trips are trips of a lifetime. Also, you should decide what visa package you need before you go, because you will most likely cross the borders a couple of times. Enjoy!

I can't say enough good things about Engagi Safaris and its owner/guide, Basiima "Robert".

Robert's high level of service began with his prompt replies to all of my emails and his informative suggestions that helped me plan for my adventure.

My six-day trip took me from Entebbe to Kigali, during which time I tracked chimpanzees and gorillas, visited the scenic Lake Bunyonyi, stopped by a Batwa community, and explored three genocide memorials.

Even though I selected the "budget" option for my trip, it was obvious that Robert kept upgrading me throughout the trip. Each hotel he chose was terrific, and at each hotel, I got the best room, in part because everyone seems to be friends with Robert. The highlight was Robert's own Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort.

Robert even knew a border guard when we crossed from Uganda into Rwanda. Needless to say, it made the journey much easier.

Engagi's prices are very competitive with the other companies I researched, if not a little lower.

As far as his guiding abilities, Robert is well-versed in the attractions, and I found him quite friendly throughout the trip, without being overbearing. Plus, his English is terrific.

At the conclusion of the trip, I asked Robert to make an unscheduled stop at a Rwandan government agency, so I could obtain a special photography permit. Robert was happy to help me out.

When I'm thinking of recommending a company, I always ask myself if I would be comfortable suggesting it to my sister, who doesn't travel that much. I would wholeheartedly trust Robert to lead a fabulous tour for whomever was going.

I have taken several organized tours all over the world, and I would have to say that Engagi Safaris is the best I've encountered.

Thanks for an amazing journey!

We stayed for a couple of days Engagi Safaris lodge on Lake Bunyonyi in November 2016 and Robert organised a perfect day’s gorilla tracking, ensuring we also had a guide with particularly good knowledge of birds. The gorilla trackers and guides couldn't have been better. We even had good weather even though it was in the rainy season.

Robert has many years of experience in the tourist sector and seemed to know the best guides and contacts in all the parks we visited. He was helpful in the planning stages and tailored the trip to our budget. He's the best kind of guide himself, not just knowledgeable and helpful but flexible, letting us adjust the itinerary to suit even when the trip was underway. He’s also a careful driver.

I don’t believe we could have had a better organised and executed trip to Uganda than we had with Robert and Engagi Safaris. Highly recommended.

I had been researching this trip for a long time; emailing back and forth between different tour operators and trying to work out if it would be worth planning myself.
I am delighted that I chose to travel with Engagi Safaris. From the beginning Robert was fantastic, he's very experienced and it really shows with the way he had planned out the trip. Everything was perfect from the places we stayed, the food that we ate and of course the experiences we had.
A big thank you must go to Robert's team in Lake Bunyonyi, we had an amazing time there over new year.

Do yourself a favour and book with Robert!

Engagi Safaries is a great option!
They can arrange anything you want in this area of Africa, either it's Gorilla trekking in Uganda, Rwanda, DRC Congo, safari in one of the many national parks, other activities like volcano tours or rafting, accommodation in any price range or just pickup at the airport. or just go for a package with everything inclusive!
I got recomanded this company from some friends in U.K that used them last october, and they was very satesfied too.
Robert (the manager) picket me up at Kigali Airport, Rwanda, had a short city tour before we went to Kabale, Uganda.
Next day was Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, (i've been to many national parks in Africa, and this is top 3)! Robert knew it all, loads of knowledge, so perfect to be on a safari with, and he spotter a Leopard from a very long distance witch i couldn't see before we were very close. (Well done Robert!)
Day after was Gorilla trekking, witch is just amazing, makes you feel alive!
something you should not miss if you are in this area.
The trekking license needs to be payed in advance over bank transfer, but don't worry, they won't rip you off, they are fantastic people trying to make a living, and love happy tourists!
In the end Robert drove me back to the Airport in Entebbe, a longer journey.

I know if you go by Engagi, and Robert that you will have a fantastic trip.

A brilliant thing with Uganda is that their main language is english, so everyone speaks good english. Also very friendly people and beautiful scenery everywhere you drive, and a safe country.

Had one of the best times of my life thanks to Engagi Safaris. He has worked with tourists for years and so knows what we want and when we want it. He arrived ON TIME rather than Uganda time. Had a great chat on our way to the park and he made sure everything was arranged for the trek. After finding out it was my birthday he invited me back to Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort and arranged a special birthday dinner for me. Amazing guy, amazing tour company, amazing day that I will never forget. THANK YOU SO MUCH ENGAGI SAFARIS!

We spent a week travelling around Uganda with Brian from Engagi and had the time of our lives. We visited Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale and Lake Mburo. Brian was incredibly engaging company and both knowledgeable and interested about the wildlife we encountered, as well as something of an expert tracker. He found us lions within half an hour of entering Queen Elizabeth NP! The trip was very smoothly run and organised and we were delighted by the food and accommodation options at every stage. At the planning stage, our emails were answered promptly and fully. I could not recommend Engagi highly enough; we would love to go back to Uganda and would definitely want to go with Engagi again.

Robert and team were awesome. I was picked up from Kigali and driven to Bunyonyi Rock Resort where I was promptly served some juice and hot towel. Robert made sure to point out and stop at extra nice spots for pictures. Bunyonyi Rock Resort was phenomenal. The location on the water was gorgeous and the room itself was great. It was a huge room and was very clean. Staff was always smiling and super attentive. The food was beyond delicious.

The next day I was taken to see the gorillas at Bwinidi and I can say it was a once in a lifetime experience. The gorillas come within feet of you.

Overall an amazing company to book with for a fair price.

ENGAGI SAFARI

We booked Engagi after 4-5 months of research. We enjoy doing our own research and planning, so we booked our own gorilla permits through UWA (Uganda Wildlife Authority) and booked our own accommodations, except for the lodge in Buhoma which Robert/Engagi had access to better rates.

We were looking for a reputable driver/guide with a vehicle. We had certain criteria for the guide and vehicle such as a safe driver who doesn’t use their mobile phone while driving, reliable, friendly, good command of English and non-smoker.The vehicle must be well maintained, smoke-free, clean with pop-up roof and hopefully AC.

Robert/Engagi responded that he definitely has guides who qualifies. He has two kinds of vehicles, a luxury vehicle and standard vehicle, but both have the amenities we require. We opted for the standard vehicle. It was also $80 cheaper than the luxury vehicle.

We paid 50% of the deposit and the remaining 50% at the start of the tour. We’re not a fan of the African bank wire payment transfer fee, but Robert/Engagi accepts World Remit which was very convenient for us.

We were actually short $25 with UWA because the bank wire transfer fees and we had to ask Robert/Engagi to pay for the bank fees so that we had paid UWA in full.

Robert/Engagi also offered to lend us a pocket WiFi so we can stay connected while we’re on tour. We just had to pay for the data. Connection was very good, so good in fact that we were able to send pictures and videos while we were on our gorilla trek!

We requested Robert to be our guide but unfortunately he wasn’t able to make it and Brian would be our guide instead. Robert assured us that Brian is equally good.

Brian did not disappoint. He ticked off all our criteria and more! We’re so happy he became our guide. He is stellar. He’s knowledgeable, punctual, courteous, professional and a very safe driver. He has both hands on the wheel and he doesn’t use his cell phone while driving. I’ll post pics.

He briefed us prior to each day’s journey, and would tell us ahead of time about any physically bumpy roads ahead and how long it would last.

He is knowledgeable in both Rwanda and Uganda. He is able to switch from right hand driving to left hand driving with ease. He said that he has done it so much that it’s automatic.

He even gave us words of comfort after we visited the Genocide Memorial.

Not only was he our guide but he would accompany us in our mini excursions such as the river walk, going for walks in Bwindi town and shopping for our son’s sports shirt.

He’s extremely attentive and aware. (like my awesome Trophy Husband) Knowing that I’m allergic to dust, he would automatically close the windows/moonroof whenever we passed a vehicle on a dusty road.

He really exceeded our expectations in a guide/driver. Brian would definitely be our guide for us next time we’re in the Rwanda/Uganda area. No doubt about it! In our opinion, there is no one better.
