Uganda isn't usually one of the first countries people choose to visit in Africa but it should be. Seeing the gorillas in the wild is a life-changing experience. It's a rigorous climb but the four of us are all in our 70's and we made it. (The porters help.) A definite must!

First of all, the drive up to the gate of the park is amazing. The mountainsides are dotted with fields that are steeply sloped. The people have to walk uphill for a long distance to work in their fields. The lodge was located high in the mountains which gave us a spectacular view of the area. The room was spacious... More

Everything is well organized in the place. The registration at the reception, the briefing of the rangers, the walk through the jungle, except for meeting the Gorillas. Luckily the park staff let the Gorillas go where they want and they do permantly watch or monitor them. So you need some luck and a good tracker to meet the Gorillas quickly.... More

Bwindi is a great place to see some spectacular wildlife and especially the mountain gorilla families. We went trekking on two days and it was an awesome experience indeed. The word impenetrable is quite applicable as the rainforest is thick and terrain steep. This is all primary forest so beautiful with tall trees, lots of birds, monkeys, insects and of... More

We had an amazing time in Bwindi. After a 12-hour drive from Kampala to Bwindi, crossing the equator and seeing a lot on the way, we were happy and tired - ready to go to bed at the Silverback Lodge (see separate review). The next day we visited the Habinyanja group, and had a lucky day as we only needed... More

Seeing the gorillas close up (close enough to make me nervous) was a lifetime highlight. Especially seeing babies crawling around on their mothers. We saw lots of them but they were pretty still because it was dumping rain. I highly recommend getting a porter! We ended up hacking our way through the forest and there was a lot of slippery... We tracked the mountain gorilla on 2nd July on safari in Uganda. After a brief from the rangers we hiked for about 1 hour and were lucky to spot one gorilla family. We spent about an hour with them up and close. The track is little challenging but worth memory of lifetime.
