The museum has some interesting exhibitions on energy, geology and natural history of Rwanda, as well as a garden showing a large selection of plants traditionally used for medicinal purposes in Rwanda.

What really set our visit apart though was our guide Frank (the guided tour is included in the entrance fee btw). He was extremely knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the topics on display as well as many other topics of interest to us as travellers to Rwanda. We spent several hours talking about the exhibitions and Rwandan culture, history and society in general. He even gave us good pointers on what else to see and do later on our visit to this great country.

Very well presented exhibitions in a smart new building. One on energy, one on Rwandan natural history (complete with enormous croc who had a pair of boots in its stomach when killed - and lots of other stuffed animals) and one on the roof on natural medicine. Also a little community library, with good Rwandan books to read and for sale, and a cafe (closed when we were there due to Covid). We had an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide to show us round.

Not diverse, uncreative, even boring and a rip off at 6000 francs. Could be so much more worthwhile. Waste of time and money.

We had a wander down to the museum and spent a few hours there - student entry is especially cheap. Interesting 3 sections covering energy, animals/archaeology and a garden of medicinal plants. Some good stuffed animals and skeletons, and the energy section was very interesting, although mostly just included boards of information to read in Rwandan, English and French. We'd say the café was just okay. Our guide in the exhibits was really enthusiastic though and very knowledgeable, adding and updating information from the boards. Worth a few hours trip.
