About
In the charming and quaint town of Llantwit Major, steeped in history and famous amongst historians, walkers and cyclists is where you will find the Tudor Tavern. The Tudor Tavern, formerly named The Globe Inn, along with the Old Swan Inn and the Old White Hart forms part of a triangle facing in towards the town square where the War Memorial now stands! To say it has a colourful history out of the three is an understatement. There is so much history associated with this lively pub it’s impossible to write about it all. It first became a public house in the 1840’s and from then it has a multitude of different owners through the three centuries. Many customers remember two past owners who have kept some interesting pets including a monkey & a parrot in the 1900’s which as you can imagine have left their own stamp on the premises to which people still fondly recollect and remember to this day. During the days in the 1800’s it was recorded that a young lad of 16 unfortunately lost his life by falling down the cistern and also another loss of life by someone hanging themselves in the stable after being given permission to stay the night… Over time there have been many stories of hauntings and sightings of ghostly happenings in the tavern where locals love to tell of their own mysterious experiences! Today the Tudor is owned by new couple, Jay & Kelly Jones, who have worked tirelessly to turn the Tudor back to the traditional family pub it once was… where children and dogs are all welcome… They don’t have monkeys or parrots but do have five children between them (some may deem unlucky of the options), two of whom live with them above the pub. The Tudor now boasts the Cask Marque for real ales and as Jay is an avid real ale drinker you can be assured of a ‘good pint’ every time! More recently Kelly has introduced a good old traditional ‘pub grub’ menu back into the pub and is rapidly becoming renowned for her signature dishes and homemade ‘chilli’. The Tudor also hosts a games room where pool & darts can be played or for the less adventurous you’ll find dominoes and cards with crib boards for your entertainment. Weekends at the Tudor turns this traditional pub into a lively venue with live music the last Friday of every month and discos with their very own resident DJ till 01:00am where the town and surrounding villages visit in their droves making it the ‘place to be’ on a Friday & Saturday night.

Meal for four
May 2019 • Friends
Four of us enjoyed a bar meal here, one had pizza, two had home made beef lasagna with garlic bread and a well dressed side salad and one had the pulled pork burger with chips. The lasagna was very tasty with quality beef mince. The pulled pork was very tasty and well seasoned. The portions are very generous and the prices are reasonable, it is a good place for a cheap filling tasty meal in the very centre of this historic town.

Pub visit
Sep 2018 • Friends
Great old pub with good beer and food, great place to watch the rugby as there are little areas to sit. The owner runs the pub across the road also. Lots of locals and pub singers in on the weekend and it's friendly. It's transformed from a dirty place to a nice clean friendly pub, good to have a quiet drink with friends, thumbs up.

What a mixed grill!!!!!
Jul 2017 • Friends
Having spent an awesome Saturday night partying in the Tudor tavern we made a pilgrimage back the morning after for a much needed hangover cure.
Ordered the mixed grill and OMG was not disappointed. It was awesome and just what I needed. What a gem of a pub. Rock on!!!

Great meal ...good service
Jul 2017
After walking to St Donats and back on a hot Sunday afternoon we returned to Llantwit Major very hungry to find that some pubs had stopped serving. We were so relieved to find that this pub served till 8p.m. It has an old world atmosphere and the barman was friendly and give good service. We ordered our meal and had a cool drink while we waited. I had ordered Lasagne & husband steak and ale pie when we were served I gasped as it was a plateful, A generous portion of lasagne with chips & salad. My husbands pie was also a generous size served with chips, peas and gravy. We enjoyed the food immensely as we were so hungry.

Rough Night Required?
Oct 2016
As a local, I avoid the Tudor with a passion. It is very cramped, poorly laid out and has a reputation for violence breaking out here. I much prefer the Kings Head, White Lion (which can be packed on weekends) or the Swan.

They have undergone a refit recently and I've heard great things about their food.

We just want to thank you for your review... after recognising your photo, I understand this review so much better. I do agree, it can be cramped on a Saturday night, as unfortunately we are very busy and as for the lay out, alas we are unable to do anything about that, due to the age of the building, the fact that its listed and also it's not ours but belongs to the brewery. I will argue over the 'violence' and 'reputation', I'm pleased to report that over the last 3yrs since we have taken over the Tudor we are extremely happy to say that we actually have far less incidents than the White Lion, and out side the swan. The refit was nearly 3yrs ago, and have received a lot of compliments in regards to this, so thank you for the mention even though a little late. We are also happy with the way the food has gone down, At the end of the day we are not trying to compete with the Hart or Swan, who are both established 'food' restaurants, we are a good, honest 'wet pub' with a little good old fashioned 'pub grub' at affordable prices to substitute our trade within the week. Our main priority is keeping our locals happy, our pool and darts teams going and providing a place of entertainment and live music on weekends a little something for everyone... We are a family, and welcome everyone! Maybe you'll visit us one day soon... ?

Great value and quality
Oct 2016 • Couples
Visited during a weekend visit to Llantwit Major. Chose the Tudor Tavern due to the good reviews and high Food standards rating compared to some other establishments in the town.

I was taken aback by the reasonable prices on the menu, as well as the variety. This was matched by the quality, as everything was well prepared.

They had 'Go Large' options, but that would have taken some appetite to eat portions bigger than what I was served.

Highly recommend.
