Great experience

We attended an open day yesterday and very much enjoyed a tour of the castle and learning more about its history. Many thanks in particular to Martin and his colleague for making this entertaining and interesting. The castle and grounds are stunning and well worth experiencing.

Gorgeous architecture and grounds
Aug 2019 • Friends
We were here for a wedding so sadly didn’t have as much time to explore as I would have liked but we were enthralled by the gates, parapets, gargoyles and etc. outside and inside the vaulted ceilings and windows were just stunning. My complaints are that there is too much lawn to walkway ratio - especially for groups of women in heels - and similarly that the gents’ toilet is just beside the dancefloor whereas the ladies’ is down a hallway, down some treacherous stairs and then not all the doors have a toilet behind them!

If you like that sort of thing!

Having grown up in the small village of St. Donats I spent quite a bit of time in the castle grounds playing with friends whose parents worked there. It is a lovely castle the grounds aren't looked after as well as they were years ago. They do open days for people to walk around and the hire rooms out for functions etc. If you like that sort of thing? It could well be worth have a look around. Last time I was there was with my wife and went to see a group playing in the barn.

The perfect wedding venue
Sep 2018 • Couples
We got married at St Donat's Castle in September and couldn't have asked for a better day. The venue and views are stunning which make for an unforgettable time. We have had so many of our guests say how beautiful everything was.

We had our drinks reception on the top lawn (we were lucky with the weather) where there was plenty of room for garden games and photos, not to forget the stunning views out to sea. The meal and dancing were in the main hall which is truly impressive and was a great size for our 100+ guests as there was plenty of space, but still felt intimate. There is also an inner courtyard which is beautiful and a private bridal room which was very useful and also looked great.

The team at St Donat's and Town & Country were incredible, we can't fault them. They make planning so easy, and really go the extra mile on the day to make sure everything is perfect.

Its been told that Hollywood stars used to visits the castle but it's now a school. You can have tours and they have weddings and open days. The grounds are massive and it's so clean and old. If you go on a tour the main hall is very impressive. Beautiful place that looks out to sea. Must visit if you can.

A beautiful wedding venue supported by a very organised events team
Jul 2018 • Couples
We had a wedding at St. Donat’s Castle in July and were thrilled with the service provided. The venue itself is beautiful and the events team are extremely well organised.

Sarah at St. Donat’s was an absolute star throughout the whole planning process… organising visits, answering all (the many!) questions we had and providing very thorough and helpful information at relevant points. Having Sarah on board helped to put us at ease throughout and made us feel like everything was being well handled. Zoe stepped in to help with the running of the day itself and she was fully up to speed when we met her a couple of days before. Zoe was highly efficient and switched on during the wedding day and it was brilliant to have someone running the show!

We largely dealt with Les from Town and Country (the nominated caterers) for the food and drink. Whilst we attended their tasting session, we had a vision for more of a ‘family dinner table’ set up, with a more relaxed eating environment and food presented on sharing boards. Les was super flexible and was happy to put their set menus aside and help us to create something quite different, even sourcing a specific cheese we requested! The freshly baked bread was delicious, as was the ham hock, sea bream, salads, chicken, sausages etc. across the courses. Les also helped us to get some local craft beers on tap and in bottles which the guests loved. Grant was the manager at hand on the day, and along with Zoe was fully briefed and up to speed ahead and did an excellent job with such a lovely manner- thank you.

What was particularly great about Town and Country was their respect for the finishing touches which make a wedding so special. We were able to put a friend’s homemade chutney on each table, set up a gin garnish table and bring along a household favourite (toffee vodka) for the speeches. Many venues and caterers whack on a corkage charge for these things which restricts you being able to incorporate them.

Thanks to you all for making our day feel so special and for your continued cooperation through the planning process!

Fascinating and beautiful castle - very interesting tour
Jul 2018 • Couples
On just a few days a year, St Donat’s organise guided tours of the castle which is now an international 6th form college. The tour itself (book online) is fascinating, with lots of interesting insights into the various owners, including Hearst. Hearst made some jaw droppingly audacious changes to the castle, bringing in ceilings, fireplaces and even whole rooms from other places during his relatively short ownership. We enjoyed the tales of Hearst’s lifestyle and super-famous Hollywood, royal and political guests. After the tour, we explored the Tudor gardens which enjoy a spectacular, tiered location overlooking the sea. A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

I visited this place for school reunion with my husband. I must say I enjoyed every minute of my visit, I loved the landscape, the weather around august was perfect for me not so cold and not hot either. You can also take a swim from the Atlantic Ocean.
