Situated in the foothills of Gunung Kelud, an active volcano, this little temple was covered in ash from a volcanic eruption many centuries ago. In recent years it has been excavated and restored. The ash seems to have aided in its preservation, as this is now a singularly intact temple. Situated about ten kilometres outside the country town of Blitar, it is best combined with a trip to Candi Penataran, East Java's greatest temple complex.
