We came here on a tour from our cruise line. It is a highlight of the city. The cathedral is a lovely shade of blue and is very nice on the inside. It is in the heart of the city where you will see many shops and restaurants. Since a mass was being held and the church was packed, we could not get a better view of the items on the walls. The altar was simple with two stained-glass windows on the side. If you look up, you will see a large purple cross on the ceiling.

If you find yourself in Santarem, you'd be completely foolish not to visit the best cathedral for many hundreds of miles. It is also the site of the earliest church in the Amazon basin. It is also the only cathedral for all those miles.

Do not travel especially - it doesn't make my top 100 cathedrals of the world, but it doesn't offend either.

a very nice building for photographs......the interior is very disappointing, so if it is closed, don't be sad....

We saw the church from one of our boat tours and figures we wanted to go check it out. It stands very tall and proud. When we arrived it was closed. It was very beautiful but could not find much out about it.

There is a bit of history here but not much. The church is stark Portuguese style with few frills but nice nonetheless.

Nothing fancy but a pretty, old church. Seems very active and right in the middle of the city. Does not take a long time to visit

this small but pretty and unassuming church sits close to the waterfront by a small park in the centre of the town. It forms part of an interesting walk along the nearby waterfront, which contains an excellent fish market and other stall selling bananas and other fruits.

It was built in 1761 that church tells the history of Santarém. Very beautiful and full of artifacts, every Sunday morning they are still there, with mass.

While walking around the town, we found this church across the street from outdoor markets. It was 1 PM and the church was closed, so we could not get inside.

Easier to access Santarem if your ship can dock. Our berth was 'stolen' by a cargo ship! Local boats ashore took time, especially as the river was clogged with fast flowing vegetation, palm trees and general debris. So, go ashore if you can. The church is clearly visible, above the shoreside. Everything feels like being a pioneer here.
