- weedee6324 contributionsSuperbWhat a little gem! Fantastic ambiance and welcome when we arrived. Amazing food and great service, very busy but didn’t have to wait too long. This was our second visit in a week and planning another before we go home. Superb. Would definitely recommend while staying in Cala Galdana.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 17, 2024
- Joe B7 contributionsDefinitely worth it for those wanting a more unique beach sceneryThere is a fair bit of seaweed and stuff like that in a pile in front of the ocean. There are also fair amounts of it in the water nearer to the sand, but it quickly disperses. The 15-20 minute walk from Cala Galdana (and the car park and bus stop) is clear via a nice path and services are not too far overall being in Cala Galdana, but not present at the beach itself. That being said the unique scenery (a coved beach surrounded by high forested cliffs) combined with the weather makes for a good experience. There are also good places to jump in from height. Completely advise doing this if you’re looking for a more unique beach experience to the contrary of a standard straight line beachfront and town like Playa Bon Sou. Lifeguard present. 7.5/10.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 29, 2024
- Kira8582Huddersfield, United Kingdom20 contributionsBeautiful but overcrowded. Like everywhere apparentlyThis was our first trip to Menorca (or any of the Balearics) as we usually visit Greek islands so we were really surprised to find how crowded all the beaches are. Having read various reviews of this beach and others in the area we knew we’d need to get up early if we wanted to visit…. Not a problem as we are early risers anyway. We got to the carpark for 8am and other than some campervans / overnighters we were the first car there. We walked down a really clear path and had a blissful 30 mins with the whole beach to ourselves, before a steady stream of people arrived. We had a nice spot leaning against a rock on the right side of the beach, which is obviously where everyone else wanted to be as no one seemed to have any worries about laying their towel down less than a metre away from us, even though there were lots of bare sand still available!? By 11:30 there was barely any space anywhere, the sea was busy too, we’d seen enough Instagram photoshoots and posing & couldn’t wait to escape. And this is mid Sept so God knows what it’s like in July or August. A beautiful beach, sea was fabulous to swim in but go early if you want to enjoy it, even outside of main holiday season.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 19, 2024

Beautiful cove in terms of landscape, surrounded by dense vegetation and rocks. It can be reached with a twenty minute walk, quite light because most of it is in the shade of the pine trees. However, due to too many people, the water was already green in the morning, and the beach was so crowded that there was no space to even put up an umbrella. I recommend continuing the journey and heading towards Cala Mitjaneta, where the water is clear and you will certainly find more space, even in the shade.

You get there via a 10 Min route from Cala Galdana.
Impressive place but sea a bit 'ruined by algae that spoil the view underwater.
Unfortunately (perhaps dictated by a storm that occurred in the mid-August period) there was a smell of "rotten egg".
Overall, it's worth going there for some swimming.

Very attractive but like similar popular beaches in Menorca it quickly becomes crowded. Shame really, it is probably best enjoyed on the low season. We arrived pretty early, the water was clear (no film) and there was just one boat moored up, but there was a slight sulphuric smell near the waters edge. There were a fair number of people snorkeling - but I doubt that there was a great deal to see as any fish would have been scared off by the hoards of people. We left just before lunch.

We arrived around 2pm...and left at 8.30pm...very different emotions between arrival and departure...I will post both photos to give a visual meaning to my words! On a naturalistic level the cove is very beautiful... with Mediterranean scrub and white rock on both sides... then on the left side after about 100 meters even walking in the water with a height of about 1.75... you arrive at a beautiful cave which allows you to take some great photos. The beach itself is very small, there were also piles of fresh Posidonia on the shoreline... and when we arrived there was an exaggerated amount of people very close to them on 8 September 2023... incredible! Luckily I found a comfortable area among the rocks and we managed to place our umbrella away from the crowd. Very transparent and shallow water up to 100 meters from the shore with alas the discovery that the dreaded blue crab has arrived here too, I caught 2 specimens, few fish under water perhaps due to the big mess of us tourists I don't know! Very large car park near Caldana Caldana..then walk downhill with a nice difference in altitude between Ida and Vuelta.. 30 minutes of walking at an easy pace! At the end of the day with the beach empty...we treated ourselves to a wonderful silent bath...it was 8pm! It felt like I was in a different place than 6 hours earlier! This beach is definitely worth a visit..but it will be a bit of luck to witness you among the crowds of tourists and seaweed present depending on the tides or winds..or storms and storms of the previous days!

white beach, you get there after walking about ten minutes through the thickets
The sea speaks for itself. Cool wheelbarrow full of fruit, served and cut at the time, a little expensive, but there is .. with another short walk you reach a cove just behind them, perhaps even more uncontaminated and wild ..

My daughter and I took a horse trek through the bridle paths to this beach. It’s beautiful and a great walk or cycle for anyone looking for an alternative day out. I’d recommend taking a picnic. The south side of the island doesn’t have the winds or the choppy sea of the north. The beach was busy and there were people snorkelling, I’m told there are lots of fish to see in this cove. The bridle way is sheltered under tree canopies which was a lovely respite from the 40 degree heat. Next year we will explore further.

The parking lot is large so it is not one of the coves where you need to get up early to have a place to park your car, I do recommend going early because if you don't have a place to park near the water you won't have it. We arrived late (10:30-11) and it was our turn
end of everything so to go to the water I had to walk through a pile of towels from all the people there. I think it was the most crowded cove I have been to this time in Menorca. The cove is beautiful. The access to it not so much, the path is good but it is about 20 minutes than with little ones (2 and 5 years old) as it gets a little harder but nothing that cannot be done.

An incredible view on the way down and such clear water! We rested on this beautiful beach where we even enjoyed fresh fruit offered by locals. Pineapple, coconuts and mangoes cut in front of us with impressive know-how. Certainly in the middle of the day there are people even in September but this does not detract from the beauty of the place!

Today, after having made the kilometric descent, we arrived to find an unwatchable sea. Brown with algae I didn't even put my foot in the water and after the tiring 20 minute descent we had the very tiring ascent. The route is not difficult, it's just quite steep. Maybe before going down ask whoever is going up if it's worth it. We, those we met, didn't tell us anything, perhaps because, just like they did, they thought, now it's your turn!!! But we sincerely warned everyone who was coming down and then there were those who wanted to continue. Do them.

I would like to know who owns the estate by the beach at Cala Mitjana?
Written September 9, 2019
Interested in renting a powerboat at Cala Galdana on or around 9/17/2019. We are staying at the Melia. Does the marina there rent 12-15 foot powerboats with bimini tops? If so, do you have the contact for the boat rental company?

Sorry to mislead people, I think i've got Cala Mitjana confused with Cala Macarelleta, in the opposite direction. Cala Mitjana is also a lovely walk, but much shorter and no cafe sorry to confuse everyone!

From the main car park I have read that the path down is concrete- does this mean I can take our toddler in a stroller?
How shady and hilly is the route (would be returning in the middle of the day in mid June after an early start)
Written June 2, 2018
I would not recommend taking a stroller or any type of pushchair -- its too rocky and hilly in places -- there is some shade but a fair bit of open too

Majority of the path is concrete, big part in the shade but also a number of sunny bits. Also, the very last part of the route is not concrete, it’s more if a rocky path. The return is rather uphill too.

What is the walking terrain like ?
Written May 14, 2018
From the beach at Cala Galdana there is a designated path up over the headland to Mitjana. The path goes mainly through woodland so you are in some shade. It is a bit steep in a few places but you can cheat part of it by getting the lift to the top of the headland in the Melia Hotel. The path is clay and gravel and fairly easy to walk but not suitable for wheelchairs etc.

Does anyone know who owns the massive estate near the beach?
Written September 29, 2017
Like above, you can get the bus to Cala Galdana and walk over from there, we parked the car in a car park just before you get to Cala Galdana and walked 15 mins down a path, it's lovely and quiet out of season but gets very busy in July and august.
