We went here with 2 daughters aged 14 and 11 and 1 son aged 12. We had dropped our elder son and his girlfriend at Vitrac for canoeing. It was 38° and it wasn't ideal for that temperature as shade was few and far between. The castle was good but not as big as we expected. We started watching a... More

This castle from the Middle Ages has been carefully restored and houses a large collection of weaponry which is worth seeing. Super views from the top of the castle. A bit of a climb to get there, but worth the effort!

You definitely need a day here. Take a baby carrier as pushchairs not permitted. Plenty of water too. Working trebuchet and the armour room was the highlight of our 8 year olds day and our 4 year old daughter loved the imagination of princesses living there. Excellent changing facilities for our 5 month old too. The views are amazing and... More

Castelnaud is great! Two families with four under twos and the kids and adults alike loved it! If you can get there on the morning a trip over to Beynac after will complete your day out!

It took us two hours to get here from where we were staying and wasn't worth the drive. There were long queues in the hot sun. We made it just in time for the 11:45 English tour which is 45 minutes on the outside of the castle explaining the military history and medieval weaponry. The views are lovely. You can... More

On the day I visited there was a blacksmith working, a play going on as well as the tour around the castle. If you visit before 1300 you saved a euro. You did have subtitled videos and some of the panels in the room were translated into English, otherwise you had to be able to read French to learn about... More

Castelnaud is apparently the most visited castle on Southern France, it certainly feels like it is. The castle is well worth a visit and I would recommend even if traveling from over a hour away. There are loads of medieval weapons from swords, crossbows, pikes and larger items such as a full sized trebuchet.

We went to Chateau de Castelnaud without expectations, but to pass an overcast day. We were pleasantly surprised! The route thoughout the castle was well thought out and just long enough for the children (ages 9 and 7). They also enjoyed the explanations and films shown inside. It was a shame we only got 1 childrens puzzle book instead of... More

We headed out to have a look at this lovely chateau which was rebuilt over the last 40 years. Lots of interesting armour and replicas of working ballistas and trebuchet. Quite a steep walk down from the car park. Entry good value for money. Even some of the videos were in english, a nod prehaps to the fact that it... More
