if you are a castle buff this is a must see. Like 7 euro. When I went I was the only one in there so I had the castle to myself. Limited English signs and no furnishings.

Loved the way this castle was periodically modified to keep up with changing weapons technology we swept through the courtyards and salons to see the remains of medieval frescoes.

This is a huge castle set in the old part of Barletta city overlooking the sea. It has been wonderfully maintained, full of old manuscripts, stone relics and artworks. There is an amazing subterranean area with a natural ‘soundbox’ in one room. Don’t miss this!

this is a great way to spend an hour or two in Barletta. Don't be put off by the woman who has to unlock the upper floor of the museum for you. she obviously does not enjoy her job and sighs and follows you around like a puppy while you look around. I was the only one in the place, but I knew that if I just stuck to my guns and took my time, she would eventually get tired, and find a chair to park herself in, which is exactly what happened. She needs other work! Other than that, though, it is wonderful to be able to explore the fortress, and take in the incredible coastline, and cityscape that surround it.

Except the castle itself there is not much to see inside. The collection of artifacts is moderate, but still you can see some interesting pieces

I love old castles and this is one of the most wonderful medieval castles I have ever seen. It was built by the Normans and the architecture is fantastic. It originally was surrounded by the sea. Today the moat is dry and the sea is a short distance away. I felt they have tried to maintain the integrity of the original structure and It is interesting to wander around inside and imagine what it was like hundreds of years ago. It is beautiful and in very good condition. There are some interesting stone coats of arms in the courtyard. Visit the very top of the castle for fabulous views and also to see the structures that were built there so the locals could witness beheadings. The castle is still used today for city events and a museum but no beheadings!. I think any castle buff will enjoy visiting this gem.

as I said in the title there are a few explanations along the tour route, the structure is impressive, the dungeons are huge but the floors (gravel) is not very clean: often hosts exhibitions but otherwise is a "transition" very impressive but few facilities: its ancient finds in its internal lack of explanations: the site "barlettamusei.it" does not exist, the site "travel in puglia"-viaggiareinpuglia.it-, has an audio guide in Italian only: one Solution you ask at reception.
For the rest of this typical defensive structure was established in Norman times and although restored subsequently maintain a really nice line: after all seen the low price for access would recommend a visit.

What more can I say. The "red room" in the castle hosted my wedding and made for a great backdrop to the photos. A very nice castle.

it is a castle, but mostly used for exhibitions. impressive from outside but not so much inside. views from castle towards sea is of industrial port. town itself was the least impressive I saw in my stay in Puglia.

Had the chance to discover this beautiful castle/fortress and it was in the evening. The special illumination casted such lovely lights all over.
