3 hours to Cain. 3 hours back. Stunning views. It’s a different walk and view on the return journey. Take lots of water.

This is a completely stunning and wonderful hike. It is not just an easy ride so be prepared to some hardship but you will be rewarded with some utterly amazing scenery. And goats. Plan a whole day for this and enjoy the tranquil village of Cain at the other end and have your lunch in one of the restaurants there before heading back.

I recently completed this route from Poncebos to Cain, having previously done it from Posada de Valdeon to Cain (access to Valdeon by car is hair raising so most people start from Poncebos). The first hour is up hill and uneven and would be difficult without proper walking shoes/boots. After that, it's easy walking and the scenery is dramatic with the river rushing far below you; part of it is boardwalk clinging to the side of the gorge face. Of course, this is Spain and the lack of barriers means you are expected to use your sense and not throw yourself off the edge - still, some people may not like being so close to an unprotected drop of a couple of hundred metres! It took us 3 hours to walk to Cain with stops for photos, etc/2 and a bit hours back. There are a few bars there to have lunch, etc at Cain; at the Poncebos end there are two restaurant/bars.

We are avid hikers and this is possibly the most spectacular trail we have done in our life. Carved along the wall of the canyon, the views just cannot be described. Long but technically easy, it is an absolute must. Add this to your bucket list.

Strongly recommend the trip to Cares to hike the 20km route (return). It is very easy to walk and beautiful no see. Need to visit early in the morning to escape the heat and crowd. Best to visit in september or june (off season).
