Here are places preserved from Greta Garbo days and is the site of most of the classical Swedish films from the early 1920s to the late 1960s. Today, this site also for sweden's largest cinema owner, SF Bio. The area has been maintained at 50% but the rest has long been demolished or rebuilt ... As a tourist, one might be interested in that much of this work was the site of the world-famous director Ingmar Bergman for most of his career. There are guided tours of the area and visit provides much more about it at the same time described for what has happened here ... Did you know that Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks visited the studios during the 1920s?

Easy to get to by subway train, this former film studio (and grounds) is a must for cinephiles. A stroll through the grounds will take perhaps an hour if you take in everything there is to see. While Greta and Ingrid (among others) won't personally greet you, you'll see evidence(s) that they were there in the past.

We visited friends who had moved inte one of the older buildings on what used to be the Filmstaden film set and studios. Sadly the property developers have not left much for vintage movie buffs to see even though some of the old building are still there, but today residential

On a recent visit to Stockholm, our party of two couples (all of us film lovers) visited Filmstaden for a special guided tour about this studio and Ingmar Bergman (in celebration of his centenary). We had a terrific English-speaking guide, who was so knowledgeable about all of Bergman's films and the role that Filmstaden played in making them. I was astounded to learn that most of "Wild Strawberries" - my favorite Bergman film - was actually filmed here, and not in the Stockholm Archipelago! We also learned how Great Garbo acted here. I'm very glad we fit this tour into our vacation in Sweden. A unique and educational experience for fans of great Swedish cinema.

Filmstaden is nice to visit to feel The filmindustry from the old days. But Filmstaden is now more or less a place to live in. Nice surroundings and there is a very nice restaurant there called Regisorsvillan. It's a bit expensive but right round the corner there is another restaurant called Backstugan.
