We hiked from Tina's Guesthouse (midpoint hiking trail, I believe) down to the gorge. Very rigorous and at times very steep trail. Allow minimum 3 hours. You can save some time by hiking directly from John's, a short distance below Tina's. Well worth the cost of taxi from Lijiang (about 1.5-2 hours) and then the haggling with local drivers to... Recovering from a case of food poisoning and with two kids, we could only manage walking to the view point at the Lower gorge from the parking lot. We chose to do it on Lijiang side because the trail leading to the view point is flat and does not involve as many stairs. It's about 2.6 km one way. You... More

One of our highlights of China. Do not miss this. We hiked the gorge over 2 days on the high trail. Stayed at halfway guesthouse where the food, service and view from our room were all fantastic. Took us 7 hours to get there and then an hour and a half to Tina's the next day for the bus back.... More

Fantastic scenery and culture. Challenging walk with beautiful guesthouses to visit for lunch and overnight stays. The gorge is very scenic and one of the best activities to do on a China trip.

The gorge is just under 2 hours drive from Lijiang. We stopped on the way to see the first bend of the Yangtze and then on to the gorge. The walkway from the car park to the gorge is about 2.5 km and easy going. At the gorge steps take you right down to the river which is very impressive.... More

If you like spectacular sights this one is for you. As the Yangtze River makes it's way between the Dragon Snow mountain and the Jade Dragon Snow mountain there's a quite narrow gorge where the water is forced creating a raging torrent. Viewing is easy-park (with the hundreds of others) at the roadside (the free toilets are good)and than take... More

We hiked the Tiger leaping gorge in february 2015. weather was great to do it. we bookd a bus with our hostel which would be 40 to the beginning of the trail, close to the school, but we decided to go a little further for 55. We started our hike at kilometer 11 at the lower road and then hiked... More

Due to a change in circumstances we had to opt for the one day trip, and found useful information very hard to come-by. We discovered that there was a bus that left Lijiang bus station every morning at 8:30am and cost 27rmb each, so we bought two tickets. Later that night we showed our tickets to the staff at our...
