The bend in the river - almost 180 degrees - is mildly interesting, but to be honest not dramatically scenic.
The small town of Shigu is also
mildly interesting, with quite unspoilt markets and local shops, it’s not tarted up like most of the towns you are likely to visit, it’s real small town China.
There is a small museum to the Long March. It’s all in Chinese, and the displays are rather old looking, but if you have an interest in that period of China’s history, mildly interesting.....

I seem to have said ‘mildly interesting’ quite a bit 🙂
That’s about it.
Worth a short detour on your way to Zhongdian, not worth a dedicated trip
Out of Lijiang etc.

This first bend, not bay, of the Yangtze is of historical importance. There are many vendors, as has been noted in other reviews, but it is worth paying the nominal extra charge to get to the top of the viewing tower, where the view is excellent, and it is much quieter than lower down.

But not more than that. The place, where you stop, offers a nice view of the Upper Yangtze River - once you have worked your way through the many stalls offering all the souvernirs you never needed.

It is about a 5-minute stop, and that's it.

Came here in July (brownish water, chance of it being cloudy / rainy) and once in December. Second time around, almost turquoise water, blue skies and great views. Go the view point along the river or up to the working men statue / red star monument on a hillside nearby. Tours usually stop here and great to see the first bend of the third longest river in the world.

This is really not worth it unless you're a history buff and want to see the place about which you've read. It is nice to see the Yangtze but otherwise really unremarkable.

it's a really really beautiful view and worth climbing up the terraces to see this, I can understand why all the keen photographers come here to take pictures

After a long drive we finally arrived at the first bend of the Yangtze (TripAdvisor needs to correct the attraction title) and basically thought "oh, is that it". It's basically a very large bend in a very large brown river. Unfortunately it was raining so it was deemed to slippery to go up to the lookout point (something to note if you really wanted to do that) and that is about it.

There is a village just on from the bend which has some interest including a stone drum and a decidedly shaky suspension bridge over a tributary.

This site is overlooked by a very interesting village, which is best visited on market day. Here, Naxi people sell and buy farmed or home made produce. There is also Naxi music played in an old assembly hall. The Long March monument and museum currently under renovation also look interesting. Very authentic.

The viewing tower is more than a kilometer from the actual river and costs money to climb. Not worth it as the viewing tower is filthy and the view is mostly obstructed. Another tourists trap.

The picture you see is not from the viewing tower unless the photographer used a very long magnifying lens.

Nothing special about this place. You still have to climb flights of stairs to just catch a glimpse. And the view is blocked by trees. Plus we had to passed by rows and rows of stuff on sales. It was just a waste of time
