It takes about 30 minutes to hike to this glacier. The path is a bit rocky but not a problem if you are careful. Not too steep. The glacier is not that big and empties into a lake. A pretty scene.

We took a 3-hour boat ride to get to the trail for this glacier. The boat ride passes a lot to see, and it is well worth most of a day round-trip to do so. There is a way to take smaller boats from this spot further into Torres NP.
From the dock, it is a 25-minute walk to the glacier base with some tricky footing. Beautiful place.

We came from Serrano Quay near the entrance to the Park & hotels in a zodiac though many people approach from Puerto Natales. The journey to Bernardo O'Higgins national park takes roughly an hour & you are kitted out in a space- suit like waterproof suit to keep you warm & dry. You need warm clothes under it, hat & gloves, ideally waterproof. There are toilets at the destination. There is a choice of hikes, one, taking about an hour round trip, on rough & slippery terrain to a viewpoint near the glacier & the other an easy 5 minute walk to a view point looking across the water with floating icebergs to the glacier about half a kilometer away. My husband did the longer walk & I chose the short one to the more distant viewpoint which I thought was beautiful. Don't think I missed anything by not being closer. Not sure what the view would be like on a wet day. Our trip including zodiak took 5 hours.

To reach the Glacier Serrano, you need to take a boat trip to travel along the serrano river for nearly an hour to reach the Bernardo O'Higgins national park. The boat trip was extremely windy. After landing on the land, you need to work a short trail to reach the view point, which is quite close to the glacier.

We have visited glacies from all over the world and these were some of the most beautify. The lack of pollution and remoteness has kept them pristine.

Its was a lovely walk to the glaciers thru tree and fuchsias in bloom. A dramatic visual aid of climate change. Stakes along the way to the foot show where the glacier was 10, 20 and 30 years ago. Huge difference. Lots of calving when we were there. We arrived by zodiac.

Took a boat trip to see the Balmaceda and this glacier. Nice trip even though it rained! Dress warmly in layers with a hat & gortex!

Our boat cruise was booked from our hotel. The cruise starts early in the morning and the sailing in the water and getting to see the snow clad mountains are a pleasant treat.
On your way to the National Park you will see waterfalls, lots of penguin like birds, seal colony and Balmaceda glacier from the boat.
Once you reach the park, it is a short walk to see the Serrano Glacier from real close.
We were lucky to have amazing weather with clear skies and no rain. It was windy though and no matter when you go you need jacket.
It is only been a month and I still dream of going back. It really was one of the top highlights of our trip to Chile.

We were in an organised tour with 21 Mayo, navigating through the Ultima Esperanza Fjord. We were amazed by the fascinating wildlife and unique flora. A walk through Bernardo O'Higgins National Park with an informative guide for amazing glacier vistas in a sunny beautiful day, add the boat trip on the Serrano River, made our trip amazing

We took a boat trip, then got off the boat and walked the trail to the glacier. The trail walk took an hour. There are attendants along the way to remind visitors not to take photos till the return journey. This is to keep the foot traffic moving. There are several spots along the way for photography. The glacier itself does not seem to be too massive from land, but it is as close as we can get to a glacier.

Can you book a ferry ticket from Puerto Natales to Serrano Glacier directly through a ferry company, rather than booking a tour? We don't want to pay extra to have things like food and drinks included.

Hola, we are a (UK based) couple excited to be visiting Chile Jan 2018. We are well travelled and love to experience the flora and fauna of different lands (but are no longer as young or fit to go other than easy hiking) but would love to travel south to see a little of the glaciers. We'd like to find a tour that includes being given/kitted out in wet weather gear (over our brought warm clothing) to avoid unnecessary travelling baggage. We have 22 days but intend to spend much of our time at around the 22-24C degree mark so... a quick fly down from Santiago to ?? Puerto Natales may suit us. Can anyone give us info so that we may include this in our itinerary? Muchas Gracios Amigos.
