It's too smoky during my visit so don"t get to see the blue water, it's took us only 30 mins to drive up from the Aso station.

This active volcano capture all your focus once you are there. You really feel the natural power and surroundings are all scenic spot. Bring a face mask and get sufficient clothing. Good uphill exercise if you choose not to drive a car.

There are not many craters you can visit in East Asia, so this is quite special. I came here by accident and was fortunate to have good weather and an open crater. Do check before you drive up!

Of course, you need two things: the crater is open for visiting (research beforehand!) and fine weather. We had both. You can walk along the crater, get on a viewing platform and and you can enjoy the view into the crater with its green-blue colored...More

We were there in October and can be accessible by car for a fee. Tourist bus load of people too, but not too crowded for photos. Could see the 'lake of burning sulfur' beneath! There were still signs of the 2016 eruption damages.

We took 2 tires before getting the view we loved. Drivers just go all the way up first and have a look at the caldera. On the way down you will be able to enjoy the horse ride and it’s a bit expensive but the...More

Great timing of our trip - they’ve finally reopened Aso and you can go right to the edge. Parking is 410 Yen and your ticket works in both car parks. Early morning trek up Mt Eboshidake followed by the crater itself is highly recommended. The...More

Aso geopark is a place that contains both rope way to the crater (its closed cause of Aso eruption in 2016), Aso museum with the so called biggest permanent projection in Japan, and a gift shop. Still a worthwhile trip even if i cant go...More
