About
Taiping War Cemetery was created by the Army after the defeat of Japan for the reception of graves brought from the battlefields, from numerous temporary burial grounds, and from village and other civil cemeteries where permanent maintenance would not be possible. There are separate entrances to the two parts, the plots of Christian graves lying on the south-eastern side of the road and the Muslim and Gurkha graves on the opposite side. In the Muslim and Gurkha section the Stone of Remembrance stands in front of a high bank which forms the north-western boundary. The two small shelters in the cemetery have been constructed of local stone, and a low stone wall flanks the road on each side.

This cemetery is on either side of the road to Bukit Larut. It is well maintained and is quite large for the size Taiping would have been during WWII
Sadly we were not able to go inside the grounds - it was said to be temporarily closed.
But it is worth a look and taking some time to ponder the struggles, fighting and sacrifice that condemned these young me to end their days here.

I couldn’t have the chance to take a picture but the view was nice. The cemeteries were really well-organized. Learned new things from my dad as he told the story of this cemetery. He said that it has been here since the 2nd world war. It has 2 sides of cemetery.

1 side is for the Christian people & the other side is for other religion, I guess. I sincerely apologise for any mistakes that I typed out.

A local restaurant owner suggested strongly that we seem out the war cemetery. We are glad we did. It is a simple and moving tribute to the fallen from the Malayan, Indian and British/Australian forces who served in WW2.

This was my third visit to Taiping War Cemetery, the first time in 1964 and again 10years ago.
I was very impressed how the local team are maintaining the cemetery as it is still as good as when I first visited.

There are 4 separate areas , each for the various religions which is a good idea.

There is a book with all the interred names and information as well as a visitors book

If you have got somebody buried there you can rest assured that their grave is well maintained

It is a little bit isolated so I recommend a taxi and retain it for your return journey 9My son and I flew from Singapore to Penang -so used a taxi from there)

The road that takes you to Taiping War Cemetery isn't that busy. It's a calm place, very quiet and clean too. You won't get charged (fees) by sitting there on the cemetery's huge stone dividers.

There are 2 sides, one side is a Christian burial ground with a huge stone cross and the other is a non-Christian one, with an inscription stone. I believe, you can stepped inside the cemetery, however, I heard that once in a while the unknown grave keeper won't let you enter because it will not honour the dead.

It's a little creepy at night time, not because of the ghost factor, but the human factor. It's a spot for troubled teenagers to get drunk or just some bad people hanging out. Visit during the day time, somewhere around 9.00 am - 10.30 am when morning light steps in. You can see how beautiful the place is, even on drizzle rain.

This WW2 cemetery, laid at the road going to Maxwell hill(Bukit Larut). There are more than 850 World War II casualties commemorated in this cemetery, including more than 500 who remain unidentified. It is final resting place for Allied personnel who were killed during World War II, particularly the Malayan Campaign and the Japanese occupation of Malaya. The cemetery is divided into two parts with Christian graves located on the southeastern side of the road while non-Christian graves being located on the opposite side. On the Christian section, a Cross of Sacrifice stands on the southeastern boundary while on the non-Christian section, a Stone of Remembrance stands on the northwestern boundary.Should make a stop if you are at Taiping, history town.

Typically exceptionally maintained like many other Commonwealth Wargraves. Easy to park beside the road. Take time to wander among the headstones of the many nationalities represented and you will see that there are far more unidentified graves here than you will see even in the 1st world war graves in Northern France. What was particularly sobering was that so many soldiers could not even have their nationality determined, such was the ferocity of not just the fighting but also the disease and decay that accompanied the campaigns.

Let the words of John Maxwell Edmonds drfit through your mind as you walk among the graves.

"Went the day well?
We died and never knew.
But, well or ill,
Freedom, we died for you."

The war cemetery is very well maintained and really quite beautiful. They've done a wonderful job honoring those who's lives are represented here.
