Nothing really to see. You can look at the outside only. No information boards or anything about what is actually quite a historical site. The Policeman was helpful with photos and a little bit of information.

What an unusual thing to find for review - we saw it - wouldn't have thought it an attraction on TripAdvisor though.

Building looks great from the outside and is awesome looking. Could do with a sligh touch up. Located along the heritage area and is a good place to check out for architectural buffs.

Of course, you can't have a tour. And you don't want to be in there !!
This is still a prison and very much so; it is quite large given that Taiping itself is a relatively small town.
The architecture is interesting and it's history
Across the road from the main gate, there is a Gallery with some of the prisoner's art and craft work - definitely worth a visit.

Taiping prison was the first ever prison to be built in Malaysia during the British colonization in Malaya. This prison is located right in front of Perak Museum. You can't visit inside but you can only view the exterior of the building from outside.

It is a very nice looking building and close to Perak museum, which has a similar architectural style. It is a working prison with colourful pictures of someone aiming a rifle at intruders so you wont be going in! Just saunter by!

One of the oldest prison in Malaysia, still in use, so cannot enter but can visit the gift shop ,nice handcrafts for purchase/ sorvenirs.Well kept, still maintain the original main facade, similar to the Penang Prison n the " already demolished" Pudu Prison in KL.

The prison is still a working prison; therefore you could only visit it from the outside. It is just across the road from the Taiping museum. If you happen to visit the museum, do cross the road and take some beautiful pictures of the architecture. Otherwise there is not much else to do.

There is also a souvenir shop that sells merchandise made by the inmates. only say the shop from the outside and did not venture inside, though I think I saw some hand made pottery.

The main building is maintained as before our country independence. Old & special architecture design made it unique. However, it's not allow to enter into the building
