This is not as good as the other Plaza further from Las Dunas but it is definitely worth a bit of your vacation time to check it out, there is no bank like the other Plaza so exchange your money at the hotel. We bought a few things here, got a great wooden cane with our family name engraved on it for $10 CUC and some decent bracelets at a good price, my niece bought a hand painted beach scene from a vendor and was able to get it a bit cheaper than the asking price so there is room to barter and the guys working the booths are all friendly, worth an hour for sure.

Amazing beach!
Delicious grilled fish served with a special sauce, walking distance from the beach.
Went to visit Santa Clara...rich in historical buildings, statues and churches from the Spanish era.

A very short enjoyable bus ride on the top side of a double-decker bus brought us to what we thought was a town, but it turned out to be an authentic looking Cuban village that had plenty of vendors with very nice memorabilia. Different food and drinks were available. I nice morning trip as the buses stopped at 1 pm.

Great place to go and pick up souvenirs when in Cayó Santa Maria. Has a few shops, discotheque for late night dancing, a patio bar and a restaurant. Escaped to it a couple of times during our stay in Cuba.

Attended Friday morning on our trip. Right at the western edge of Melia Las Dunas. Not many stores or sellers but certainly worth a look around. They even have a bowling alley there.

Had a huge selection of items from jewelry to leather goods to anything Cuba. Check cigar and rum prices though—we got ours cheaper at the resort. Also have a giant pirate ship and lighthouse you can play in. Got some beers and did some shopping.

Do you still do the foam party? My family and I will be going to Melia Las Dunas from February 23rd to March 2nd. We are wondering what type of activities you have there for small children.

Hi we just got back from iberostar in March, they went to a foam party one night and the resort bussed them to and from. Just wondering if the playa Cayo Santa Maria attend this party or is it just certain resorts?
Thanks for your help

yes. Playa goes to this: Carnival every two weeks in low season, according to the Sunwing representative. I went in late May. There were fireworks, beverage drink stands, and a disco outside the main disco. I'm not sure about a parade because our bus was a bit late. This time they did not have the foam. It was rather disappointing, especially for the young kids that attended. Sunwing cost pp: 25 CUC, all inclusive. If you forgot your purchase with your flight rep, you could purchase at the Plaza Estrella.
How much is a game in the bowling alley?
