Best resort in Cuba. A quiet place for lovers. Always chairs on the beaches. Outstanding staff. Best resort to relax. New director Manuel very personable, takes time to talk to clients, very dedicated to his staff. Come and see for yourself. You will not regret it. A little more expensive than your average resort, but well worth it. Two pools, Two beach bars, plus main bar open 24hrs. Free internet. Three restaurants with changing menus. Lots of beach towels, snorkeling mask, fins and tubas available. Extremely relax atmosphere. This time not mentioning any staff because list would be endless. Great spa, yoga, aqua gym, tennis. Adults only, living in paradise. Home away from home. You are treated as if you owned the resort.

    Most Amazing
Not sure what to say, it’s a small quiet well kept resort, the staff was absolutely incredibly, kind, friendly, and welcoming. The food was better then expected, the beaches were clean the rooms were perfect. It was quiet and respectful. But what really impressed me was the bartenders... each and every one of them made sure you were taken care of no matter where you were on the beach or by the pool. But the key word here is Safe, we felt as we were home, everyone was like family, I’ve never been away from home and felt safe. I was left speechless and I can’t wait to go back.

Well deserved and much enjoyed AI break after taking in some of the delights of Cuba incl Vinales, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Havana
The hotel us pretty much fully open and the guests beginning to return. Staff outnumbered guests during our stay. They were all really great. The garden/maintenance folk kept the place looking wonderful and super clean. Beach guys always on hand with snorkelling and weather advice. The coral and fish just a few yards from the beach was spectacular! We had finished a busy 10 day trip through the sights of West and central Cuba and this place was a peaceful haven to rest and wind down. We met some lovely people and the staff were great fun. They spray the resort each evening but take precautions for mozzies and sand flies anyway. We would certainly return. We're reliably informed it's the best along the Santa Maria strip.

We were at this resort in December 2019 and we wrote our review accordingly - we were disappointed (that you can go read on trip advisor). We had the opportunity to go back in March 2020 and this time we were pleasantly surprise. There is a new manager, Manuel. He seems really nice and wanting to improve the resort. We did not have a chance to meet him personally, but maybe next time around. Hopefully, he will still be there when we return.

Claudia used to work at the spa. She is very polite and gentle.
She is now at the "quality control" for the resort.

The spa is a nice, small and relaxing place.
Great service with many options available.

I paid 5,000 for a week to this place. I upgraded to the Royal Suite that was was promised to be the suite of a lifetime. Well, here it is 48 hours later on my way home. I have travelled extensively to the Caribbean and not all places have been great but this one takes the cake for the most horrendous conditions ever. We were supposed to get a early checkin because we are in The Royal Suite. We arrived at 1:00pm and by 5:00 (check in is at 4:00) the room was still not ready. Finally get to the room and it was on par with a hourly place in Canada (not that I have been in one!). The patio door did not lock, there is no mini bar (well the warm fridge is there with one bottle of coke) there were ants crawling everywhere there was a bug in the bed, there was gray hair from the person before me, no headboard, the furniture was in such rough condition I was afraid to use it. The second bathroom had no towel, you could see the light through the door to the outside, there was mold on the walls and dirt in the vent that was beyond disgusting. The toilet squealed for 20 minutes after each flush, the bathtub did not drain, the sink in the main bathroom the thingy that you pull up to drain came out and I was unable to put it back. The knob off a drawer also came off in my hand. The outdoor furniture was so bloody dirty there was no way I was going to even sit on it. The clothes line outside broke off in my hand.
Not to mention there were no usual welcome kit that you would normally get like restaurant hours, map etc.
The second reason I left was actually NOT the food, it was actually pretty tasty. However, everything that was left out like bread, desserts, breakfast items had so many flies landing on them I was afraid I would contact a disease (not kidding) how other people choose to eat it knowing there were flies on it is beyond my comprehension. When eating we had to fight off the flies on ourselves! After 24 hours I booked a flight leaving the next day.
You will not find many people here. There was probably 25-30 people tops so rest assured your in for a very VERY quiet vacation.
The maid was non existant, on our second day she was a no show so we had to pick up the towels we left on the floor and use them making sure there were no ants left.
Our butler (not Joan as he was wonderful honestly) we requested more water in our room, diet coke and a couple of extra pillows because they have a pillow menu right? Well that never materialized. The gym was a sad sack of a few pieces of cardio equipment and 1950 weights.
The Air Transat rep was practically yelling at us on the phone for not bringing it up to his attention and I was supposed to know he was there are 9am the morning after our arrival. Do NOT be fooled by the 5 star reviews. What happens is the staff will beg you to write a good review so they do not lose there jobs as this place has suffered greatly. Which is obviously deceiving as I did extensive research before booking. I have been to Cuba 6 times and this was the one time I spent so much money and had the worst experience. If anyone has any questions please reach out. I could go on and on with other issues but those are the top 50.

Just returned from staying at the Melia Buenavista. The hotel is located about an hour 45 minutes from the airport but the location more than makes up for that. There are 3 beaches to choose from and they are beautiful. The water is pristine, the sand white and soft. Not a busy beach area at all so no worries about getting a chair. There are 2 pools with one of them having a poolside bar and a pizza station.
The room we had was overlooking the ocean and was clean, roomy and quiet. It also had an outdoor shower! Keep in mind, the ongoing theme here is quiet. If you're looking for a party like Varadero you won't find it here.
The service here is impeccable. Each member of staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Whatever our request, they made it happen. Kudos to front desk staff and to Yusdelks (sp).
Your room includes a butler who will make your dinner reservations, check in throughout the day to see if you need anything and answer any questions you may have. Ours were Ramon and Joan (pronounced Yuon) and they were amazing. I can't say enough about these gentlemen. Always helpful, friendly, courteous...and more.
The food is good. Nothing exceptional but there were enough options to please us both. Mostly a la carte and again, the service was very pleasant.
We are hoping to return in November and have another great stress free stay.

We have experienced a wonderful stay (7-10 august 2022) at the Meliá Buenavista Spa Cana Santa Maria. The all inclusive formula was really perfect. We were lucky to have room with sea view. The resort has 2 restaurants, a nice swimming pool and 3 private beaches.
Entertainment service is complete. We have tried yoga, pilate, aquagym, rhum and cigare tasting, Cuban evening,...
We would like to specially thank Arel and all the team taking care of us during our stay

The staff are the best. The level of service is spectacular. They are attentive and caring. Special shout out to Leydi who made sandwiches for us because we had a late flight. Lester was the best bartender and listener. Eduardo made sure our fridge was stocked. Lanni kept our room spic and down. Luis always checked on us to make sure we were having a good time.

The beaches in Cayo Santa Maria are unparalleled.

Will definitely return.

I had a "rum massage" at the Melia Buenavista Resort and "Spa" on Christmas Day 2012. It was like being groped by a wino.

When massaging the backs of my legs, the male 50-something masseuse, who barely spoke English, pulled the sheet up a little too roughly, left it a little too loose and exposed too much of the back of each leg for my liking. As he worked at the top of my thigh his hand slipped between my legs way too often for my comfort level.

When I turned onto my back, he covered my eyes with a folded towel. I was uncomfortable and removed it. He massaged my stomach (my chest and legs were covered) which I've never had done because it is considered rather personal. As he worked on my shoulders, his hand slipped under the sheet, between my breasts at least once. All the while, his big hairy arm kept brushing against my chin.

Not relaxing. I have complained formally to the Melia-Sol hotel chain (January 25, 2013) because I continue to feel creeped out, indeed violated. No Feliz Navidad here.

My advice: always ask the spa manager what training each masseuse has. Better yet, grab some run and enjoy the beach. Linda, Toronto, ON

This was our sixth trip to Cuba and the first to this resort. It is first class. It is exceptionally clean. The staff are very friendly and the manager is hands on and visible and approachable. It's a small resort so nothing is far away. It's all adult so no screaming children. It's quiet and if you want a place to relax this is it. The food selection was excellent and preparation and presentation were great.

The butlers tend to your every wish. Staff in general will do everything they can to accomodate you.

Being a small resort, (105) rooms there are never any lineups.

This is one of the few resorts where the pictures you see online actually reflect what is there.

We met a lot of great people from all over Canada.

We'll definately be back next year.

One suggestion, to avoid the long bus ride from the airport which stops at various resorts, take a cab. It costs 70 pesos plus tip but gets you there in half the time and it's actually a relaxing ride.

The hotel is great. The team is wonderful. The service is perfect. E.g. I did not bring a mask and fins but I was offered to use the equipment from the life guard only vs, small tip of my choice.
The general manager is superb. Rooms are nice clean and great pillows! First time I slept well in Cuba.
The only poor side is the food. It is all inclusive but the food is awful in European standard. The chef is Spanish but he needs to return to basic. Instead of having buffet for 118 rooms I suggest having all a-cart and have beet quality and less waste. Cuba has wonderful and great quality fruits and vegi, but not a sign of it in the hotel. It is pitty as the hotel is in a great spot great beach, great pool great stuff…
One positive is the BBQ near the pool. I wish it was open in the evening.
In General we had great time – I lost 1. Kg in 4 days!

My husband and I had the best massage at the Melia Beunavista. Clau (Claudia) arranged a birthday couples massage for us at at the spa. She made it easy and booked a time slot and Ariel and Mila greeted us at the spa. They gave us some choices for different massages. In fact we loved the first massage so much that we immediately booked a second one. I was very impressed, very professional couples massage, we were so relaxed and the rum was a terrific experience. I highly recommend asking for Ariel and Mila, you will not be disappointed. If you have any questions seek out Claudia who will most certainly help make any arrangements for you at the spa. Thank you and next time we will be back! Amazing experience and even better than my massages back home in Canada! Thank you!

This is still our favourite resort after 13 times.
There are some exceptional people like:
Pool bar Orestes, Osmani,Lester
In management Rafael Cuban manager who does go and ask guests if they need anything, Lisandro Bar and Food Manager who works extra hard in insuring guests are happy and taken care of, Niurka Assistant Food Beverage, Leidys Quality Manager and Annabel Room Staff Manager.
In La Notte main bar, Yamisela runs a great bar with her team, too many names to mention. In Los Caribes Yaniseil is very professional, has that special touch to insure all is perfect. Our favourite cook Arley makes amazing plate presentations and extraordinary food, just wow. The Pool BBQ makes some of the best pizzas anywhere Piti never stops he really needs help, should have another permanent assistant. If Melia or Gaviota does not provide you will lose the best BBQ cook in Cuba and Buenavista ratings will go down.
There are tourists who extremely demanding who exaggerate and can’t wait.
Our maid Bobby is conscientious makes our room impeccably clean.
We feel safe in this resort.
Navy, Danny, Felipe entertainment work very long hours, provide excellent musicians, aqua classes, yoga, and towel service.
You never have to look for pool or beach chairs. Levant takes care of pools and De la Torre the beach.
Spa, Claudia and her staff provide great massage. Ladies get your nails done. We miss Daymi (Butler) and Lenna (Sommelier).
Breakfast Marie and Saily and the rest of the staff work really hard.
Sorry if I forget names. But the best thing about a small resort is everyone works together, like a very close knit family.

Fidel Castro once said Tourism is very important for Cuba. There is no doubt that last fall hurricanes have hurt Cuba, this resort can be much better, this is our first time where fruits like orange, bananas, lime and lemon are not available including juices. Therefore many drinks are not available.
A 5 star hotel with no french fries ???
Senior management outside this resort should take note if they want clients to return, many guests from different countries were not happy.

Hopefully on our 14th visit at Easter simple things will be available.
