There is a short nature trail (Sendero Playa Las Gaviotas) leading to this beach. It is refreshing to see some natural forest of Cayo Santa Maria. After the last most eastern resort on the road, there is a booth manned by a naturalist. One can get there by a taxi from the resorts. It is part of the Refugio de Fauna.

Look pass the 4 cuc admission fee and the 10 mins walk through the forest and you will be rewarded with an amazing feeling of walking onto a piece of paradise. The beach is truly a natural oasis. The sand bars create natural pools and the gentle lapping waves make it an ideal place for kids to play.

Bring your water/snacks but leave only your foot prints and take away memories and pictures only. Let's pray they don't develop this spot.

In my opinion its much better than playa pilar by a long shot.

Fantastic natural beach, white sand, clear water. You need to take along your sandwiches and drinks.

Rented a 30 ft boat for 6 hrs. Shared cost (450.00) between another couple. Got 3 barracuda and missed 3. Lunch consisted of a bag of cheetos and canned tuna with mayo on crackers. Some lunch! Water, pop and a dozen beer were on board. Arranged that with rep. at the hotel.

This is a natural refuge where you will see very interesting & beautiful trees & vegetation, birds, small & harmless lizards & snakes. It is a self-guided walk through the forest that leads to a marsh and then, on to the beach. If you are a nature lover, wear running/hiking shoes, insect repellent sunscreen, take a camera & water and you will find this is well worth the 3 Pesos.

this excursion takes place from a small airport approximately 15 minutes fro the Santa maria resorts and we are so glad we did this. it was $280.00 Canadian per person and was the highlight of our trip to cuba.

I have visited a couple of areas in this park at the Eastern tip of the main island. This time I visited this wonderful beach which is protected in a national park. The sand is fine , water is shallow, so you can venture out if the winds co-operate. It was rather windy the day I was there. I walked from the entrance right to the eastern tip of the island . It is a about 6 kms return . The beach is very nice at the entrance, there is no areas with chairs bring your towels and enjoy. The further you get from the entrance , the beach is still wonderful however you start to see litter , fish traps and abandoned flip flops towards the end of the beach. They should do a clean up. I enjoyed this walk on the beach. If you want to experience Cayo Santa Maria undisturbed take a morning and visit the beach. $4 cuc to enter. There is no food or drink service. I only saw about 10 people the day I visited.
