    Overwhelming and incredible
After hearing so much of the history of this location and what happened in 1915, it was an extremely overwhelming and emotional experience but also incredible to visit and reflect. Bless the souls of those who sacrificed their lives. I now understand why Australians flock here on Anzac Day to attend services honouring the lost souls.

Time has lent this place peace, but memories of the horrors of war persist.
One of the world's few genuine visionaries Turkish President Kemal Atatürk's words resonate so beautifully and healingly on the monument. An inspired man. A peaceful place now, but ghosts wander and cry. The world is yet to learn, truly collaborate and prosper. A beautiful place.

    Amazing to see in person.
A bucket list place to learn more about family who served during the war. My great uncle was never found but his name appears at lone pine. My grandfather came here to fight for his family and returned a broken man. It is however refreshing to hear how the Turkish people admire the Australian soldiers.

    ANZAC Cove in person
Today was a real bucket list item, visiting Gallipoli, Anzac cove and Lone Pine. Staying at canakkale town, a ferry trip and private group bus stopping at all places of interest. An emotional moment, red poppies growing wild along the roadside making it surreal and remains of the trenches still evident. Monuments paying respect to all

What a stunning area with such an awful history - I was quite literally moved to tears at the Anzac cemetery round the corner in the bay where they landed. The authorities have done such a beautiful job at maintaining this whole area and you cannot fail to be caught up in emotion. It's so good that picnics and fun things are not allowed - it's not here to be fun after all.

Quiet, peacefull place, next to sea, where they have landed and died. Usad as ceremonials every year at dawn by Anzacs. Sad, respectfull, clean, well maintained. They were not foes but brave friends to be killed to save our country.

October 2021. Respect. How such death, misery, and tragedy could happen at such a beautiful place. This visit bookended a historical perspective as we had visited Port Albany, Australia in 2019, the embarkation point for Anzac troops destined for Gallipoli landing. Very moving visit to the Cove and other battle field areas and cemeteries. Please show respect while visiting.

This is a lovely place to visit. What I absolutely have to say, though, is that if you are not part of an organised tour that you have to be aware that there are no places to buy water and there is no public transport. We nearly got caught out during this summer's sun and hitched a lift out of there. Otherwise it might have been a different situation.

Sorry just to talk about logisitics at this site, when there is so much more to say. But please be warned if you are an independent traveller.

“Heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives! You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.”
― Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

I highly recommend the audio guide on the website. - http://www.anzacsite.gov.au/2visiting/walk_info.html

This is a great historical walking tour that will help you understand battle of Gallipoli. It starts at the Anzac Cove Commemorative Site located at North Beach and finishes at a lookout near Walkers ridge cemetery overlooking the start point. You wander around and really get a great picture of what it was like as a young soldier fighting against a determined enemy.

Getting there:
Self drive: Car hire: 100TL, Fuel:30TL, Ferry:25TL
Tour: 70TL per person, but you will be rushed and unable to do it at your own pace so I would recommend hiring a car.
Take some lunch/water as there is not much once you are there.

Some other suggestions for info you might want to look through before you get there are:
Gallipoli - Watch the 1981 Film ‘Gallipoli’ (starring a very young Mel Gibson) - It won’t give you much historical detail, and most of the film is set in Australia and Egypt but it will get you in the right frame of mind for your visit.
Wikipedia - Have a read/skim through of the wikipedia page, it gives some good background info and you can understand what is actually happening in reference to the films.
Canakkale - Watch the 2012 Turkish film “Çanakkale 1915’ - It is a pretty average film, (and you have to read subtitles), with all sorts of nationalistic propaganda, but it does give a pretty good overall history of the campaign and can give you a point of reference for what this all meant from the Turkish side of the battle.
For those that are super interested, or are spending a lot of time on transport and need something to keep you entertained, the book, Gallipoli by Peter FitzSimons is a really good read (also available as an Audio Book). Be warned, it is a very long book, so only attempt this if you are very interested.
