We did not do a tour from Melbourne so no comment on this part, we simply went there with a prebooking via internet. This was painless and we were told to reconfirm on the day we booked which also went well. We did book the...More
It was a rather cold winters dusk when we standing out on the boardwalk waiting for the little guys to make their appearance but when they did it was definitely worth it.

We went to the Penguin Parade on Friday night and we were very lucky with the weather in peak winter it was a sunny day. Once the sun set it was freezing and we were so glad we rugged up. Take something to sit on...More
Was initially apprehensive about the longish bus ride to get to the penguin parade, but it was worth every minute of it. Penguins were adorable, and even my husband who very grudgingly came along with me were taken by them. Go for the penguin plus...More
Penguin Parade on Philip Island in Australia is definitely a unique experience. Every sunset, hundreds of wild Little Penguins emerge from the sea and march across the beach to their sand dune burrows. We did the Penguin Plus and the Eco Tour (together A$50/person). As...More
Guess I was lucky then for I saw them in 1974 when the site was not developed. We just stood on the sand in the dusk and quite suddenly the sea was full of black blobs. They got washed up on the beach on their...More

Yes, it will be cold, so wrap up, but it is an experience of a life time so don't be put off. There are a lot of people there but it's very well organised. There are plenty of other things to see on Philip Island so I suggest you stay the night as the penguins arrive at dusk so you won't get away early, It's a 90 minute drive from Melbourne (the roads are good). Take the pressure off yourself - enjoy and then go back to accommodation nearby
