We did only one tour organised excursion while in Bora Bora, and the Lagoonarium proved to be the only one we needed to enjoy a truly authentic Bora Bora experience of snorkelling, swimming with stingrays and sharks, learning the many benefits and uses of the coconut tree from shelter and food, to hunting and fishing both on land and at sea! The feast our wonderfully beautiful hosts put on for us on the Motu was second to none, and a good reason to at least eat local once (or twice) rather than at a resort. The tapioka dish, raw fish, bbq chicken and tuna, as well as taro, coconut and banana breads, were simply delish! In addition, if you're vegetarian, then you also had fresh coconut, mango, and paw paw added to the lunch feast!

But wait there's more, and it's not because it is good value for money and they pick up and drop you off at your accommodation, but the real reason you should put this excursion on your MUST DO when in Bora Bora, our hosts - a Bora Bora family affair with plenty of beautiful music, singing, and of course Bora Bora french polynesian humour and hilarity. Apologies to the rest of the family, but the only name I could remember was my "newly adopted for the day" niece Gigi! But to the rest of you, a warm mauruuru and fa'afetai tele lava (Samoan) to you all.

French, English, some Italian, and some American movie languages spoken (asta la vista), so our hosts are well versed in ensuring we received great commentary of the sights and history of Bora Bora, at least from their local point of view:)

Definitely an "hakuna matata Bora Bora" experience not to be missed!

Fa'afetai tele lava for sharing your wonderful island home with us!

Absolutely fabulous day trip. Great ambience whole day, English and French spoken and you get to see so many spots in one day. Corals, sharks, rays, turtles and even a pig. Definitely one of the best tour I have done in French Polynesia. And the lunch was super tasty too! It will be hard to beat this experience. Maururu!

After reading the awesome reviews we booked the Lagoonarium as a half day excursion while we were in Bora Bora with the Paul Gauguin cruise. This included snorkeling in 2 places off the boat, visiting the actual Lagoonarium and a snack. The guide was friendly but little explanation was provided in English as to where we were going or what we were doing. The guide did play the ukulele and sing however which was very pleasant.
Our first stop was to swim with the black tipped reef sharks off the boat. This was an amazing experience and we were able to feed lots of butterfly fish that were everywhere while the sharks swam in the background. They seemed not to bother the people at all. It was helpful to have water shoes for this part of the tour in addition to mask/snorkel.
Our 2nd stop was at the Coral Garden which was beautiful. We got to see beautiful corals, fish and a moray eel. We searched for and spotted some eagle rays as well from the boat.
The 3rd stop was at the actual Lagoonarium which is a beach owned by a Tahitian family on one of the motus amidst the fancy over-water bungalows & 5 star hotels. The Lagoonarium itself was a bit tired with broken beach loungers, some picnic tables and sea creatures in netted enclosures. I am not sure about whether the turtles or Lemon sharks in the enclosures were in rehabilitation or not but no explanation was given about them and how they got to be there. There were no sting rays, the guide explained that they had all recently escaped from the enclosures when a net broke. Hmmm...There was a large wild boar hanging around the property which was quite funny! We did not eat there but were given a snack of fresh fruits to enjoy on the boat ride back.
Overall it was a good experience and great way to see the amazing sea life that the lagoon of Bora Bora has to offer.

The Lagoonarium is a must-see. Snorkeling there was amazing. There were so many beautiful types of fish and coral- some of them endangered. My husband and I loved that there were many launching points. We also loved the fish feeding. The instructor was so knowledgable; we learned so much!

Awesome! The hosts are a family and treat you like members of their own. Pick up was super easy and quick from Mai tai. I’ll always remember sailing into the most beautiful lagoons my eyes have ever seen with frequent pit stops involving swimming with friendly sharks , sting rays and the most colorful fish out there. I’m thinking about booking this same tour tomorrow. Thanks!!!

This family run tour group is a must do trip! We booked through our host, Nir, at Bora Bora Condominiums-also highly recommend! We were picked up and well taken care of from the start. First stop was the Coral Gardens; we snorkeled amongst a huge variety of countless fish and even saw a moray eel and stone fish! Next we swam over a group of at least two dozen eagle rays on our way to snorkel with black tip reef sharks and stingrays. Afterwards we made a stop to look for manta rays which come through the lagoon daily to be cleaned by little fish, but didn’t have any luck even though our guide tried really hard. Then we ended at the lagoonarium, a nice shaded private beach with a rehab for sea turtles and lemon sharks. A cute large pig and adorable island dogs were there to great us as well. We were fed an AMAZING plateful of traditional fare in handwoven plates and also given handwoven Tiare flower crowns, both smelled fantastic! Our guides were fun, informative, and even sing and play beautiful music for you! Bring extra sunscreen lol Definitely a highlight of our trip to Bora Bora, Mauruuru!!

Just been on this trip and what an experience. Family run business with people who really care that you have a great experience. Max was our guide and his Aunty was the boss, she was extremely good advising everyone of what to expect, the fact that we would circle the main island and see all of the lagoon and that the visit to their private island had pens where injured turtles and lemon sharks were kept to recuperate before being returned to the lagoon - brought in by fisherman who may have caught them in netting. Anyway, enough of that. The snorkelling at the coral garden was fantastic, we also stopped and were able to view Eagle Rays, jumped in again when we saw a huge Manta Ray and then spent time in shallow water being surrounded by Reef Sharks and Sting Rays. It was a fantastic experience. To finish our half day tour we went to the family’s private island to see the turtles and lemon sharks, whilst being provided with a drink and some local fruit. This trip is highly recommended, you will love the experience.

We did the full day tour which was very worth it. Our Airbnb host helped us reserve this trip run by a local Bora Bora family. The boat was small but steady, decorated with coconut leaves and tropical flowers. In between all the snorkel spots we were serenaded by Max and his grandfather playing Polynesian songs on the ukulele and drums. First stop was snorkeling at the coral garden which had a lot of fish and of course coral. Water was very clear but strong current. Next snorkel stop was over a fever (had to look that up) of eagle rays swimming deep down. After that was snorkeling with black tip reef sharks and stingrays - scary but very cool. A quick stop for sighting a giant manta ray deep down. Then to the lagoonarium/private island where we swam with lemon sharks. There were a few sea turtles to see as well but not to touch as sunscreen is damaging to them. Lunch was delicious and very filling with a variety of Polynesian foods, bbq fish and chicken, fried rice, local fruits. They provide water during lunch. After lunch was a short hike around the private island, how to open a coconut, awesome demonstration of how to tie a pareo.
Tips:
Snorkels provided but no fins (if this is important to you, could help with current). Bring your own water bottle for earlier half of day.
Bring reef safe sunscreen or long sleeve/hat as you’ll be in and out of the water and sunburn/skin cancer are no fun.
Waterproof camera or case for your phone to capture all the cool shots of many sea creatures you’ll see on this very worth it day trip.
