About
In the completely renovated school building from 1877 one can learn about the history of the fishing village, the seaside resort and the fascinating forms of life which can be found beneath sea level. the centuries old tradition of the fishing industry as well as the seaside resort life form the image of Scheveningen. The permanent exhibit provides an overview of the fishing industry and daily life in years gone by. A unique collection of paintings, including several by Mesdag, provides a beautiful record of the past. The full size reconstruction (and moving) of the cabin of a fishing boat revives the life onboard. Period rooms show the different lifestyles of various classes: the fisher folk, the middle class and the well-to-do shipping cmpany owners. And, of course, the traditional costume of Scheveningen in on display. Special attention is given to the jewelry worn with the costume. Unique is the exhibit featuring the story of the seaside resort dating from the beginning of the 19th century. The Sea Room takes the visitor into the underwater World. Hundreds of beautifully coloured shells, crabs in many shapes and colours, octopi from the deap sea, millions of years old fossils and many other sea creatures aron on display here. A complete coral reef and its inhabitants also constitutes a part of the presentation. Regularly there are temporarily exhibitions. For more information see our web site.

Cosy little museum, where one can see how fishery was done some hundred years ago. Twice a year there is the possibility to buy shells from all over the world from some (inter)national sellers, whole year through you van buy shells from the stock the museum has in the shop.

Located in a old school building one can appreciate and see/ read the history of the fishermen in Scheveningen, how they worked on their fishing boats, how they lived at home. There is also an exhibition on display on sea pollution and a whale entirely made out of plastic bottles. Special. There is a small restaurant on site. Recommended.

Lovely little museum that give insight into a lifestyle that has all but disappeared. Scheveningen used to be a separate community but has been overrun by the Hague. Still, the fisherman's lifestyle is well represented and the displays are very interesting. There is also a small aquarium-type display.

This is a nice and small museum and gives you an idea of the last 100 years or so in Scheveningen (part of The Hague). It takes you an hour and is a nice break from a city ot beach trip. My kids loved it.

Muzee is a typical museum of folk history. Nice to take your kids and show the objects related to fishery, traditional dresses in Scheveningen, a notable collection of sea shells and even a few period rooms for different social classes. The museum is housed in a former primary school.
I found the museum a bit dated and admit that it is not really 'my thing'. I liked the small collection of living coral and tropical fish which add colour to the museum.

It may take you a while to find this place because it's slightly off the beaten track but there's a lot to see. It tells the history of Scheveningen and the people who've lived there from its beginnings as a fishing village. As well as objects and paintings there are nicely detailed mock-ups of 18th century house interiors and a big sea-life section. Entertaining and informative.

It is a good local museum that covers a broad range of the town's development, history, culture, industry and relationship with the sea. Most of the signs and explanations are in Dutch but the objects and the settings are clear enough to get a good impression without the need for language skills.

Scheveningen is based on the sea and fishing so it it little suprise that the museum concentrates on that. A number of tableau show life in the Visserdorp which I find fascinating from an historical perspective. Has a cafe and a shop with books and other items on the area.
